My husband and I stayed at the Dan Eilat for two nights in early May. I should mention we had no interest in Eilat except as a jumping-off point to Petra. I should also mention that if we were traveling with kids, we might have felt this was a better choice. We decided to stay at a large resort because this would be our last two nights of a two-week visit to Israel and wanted to end with full-service experience that would ready us for our trip back. Boutique hotels and B&B's are our normal style. Having said all of that, I don't think the Dan Eilat is really worth the money. There was one very helpful front desk person, and the rest really could not be bothered with going out of there way. The staff in the bar had very limited English proficiency and needed to be flagged down. While the breakfast buffet was awesome in its selection and volume, one of the mornings we needed a packed breakfast brought up to the room because we were leaving early (for Petra), and what we got was nothing short of bizarre as well as terrible: several pieces of packaged white bread (like Wonder), some with processed cheese and very wilted greens on them, others just bread alone, some olives, stale vegetable salads, brownies and biscotti. It seemed like an afterthought and not what you'd expect from a "luxury" resort. The pool areas are well-maintained, as are the lobby lounging areas, but the overall decoration is dated and tacky. The room (which was a free upgrade) was very large and had a nice view of the sea and pools. We had massages in the spa which were average, and we both had massage therapists who spoke almost no English. I noticed that we were among the very few English speakers, though, and there were many more Russian speakers there, so maybe that accounts for the lack of English proficiency of the staff.
