“Very good hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2010

Very nice hotel, had excellent time there. the location is fantastic, and you just walk down from the hotel and right to the beach, which is amazing. The staff was very nice, food was good, altough we only had breafast.

the only problem is that the gym is not for free, and niether the internet.

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times before, and had always enjoyed our stay. However, this time, we were all appalled. In addition to the poor service, the two primary turn-offs here were the cleanliness of the hotel and food: the lobby, spa and hallways were dusty, not vacummed, and the rooms were poorly maintained. The worst part of all, though, was the food. If you are going to stay here, I recommend not to take any food plan - even breakfast! The produce was not fresh and there was very little variety to choose from. And from what was offered, nothing was prepared well or tasted good. This is the first time that I have ever complained of bad food at hotel in Israel, typically it is very good.

Our 4-night stay in the Herods Palace Hotel was great, although it started on the wrong foot: We arrived on a Saturday and got our room was at around 5:30 pm because of the hotel’s late check out policy on weekends. We then had to wait for another 30 minutes, as the magnetic card reader on our door was non-functional. And now for the positive side: All tastefully decorated rooms have a beautiful view on the promenade and the Red Sea. The spacious swimming pool area is sunny most of the day, and is well equipped with sun umbrellas and deck chairs. The swimming pool is big and clean. Our only complain would be that the staff responsible of providing guests with towels was virtually absent during opening hours. The breakfast buffet was outstanding, offering a large variety of fresh fruits, cereals, rolls and breads, cakes, cheeses, as well as some hot (local) dishes. Shops, restaurants and pubs are all within a walking distance. We took a day trip to Petra in Jordan (a two-hour drive from Eilat), which was a marvel! But bear in mind that crossing the border between Israel and Jordan can be a slow tedious business. All such excursions are regularly organised by the hotel.

If you're looking for the best place in Eilat for a family with children (either too little to leave them in the children club alone or too big for it) and want a nice hotel that's close to everything the city has to offer, together with great food (the best breakfast in Israel, which is a lot, since Israel hotels are famous with their breakfasts...) and a lot of pools.
The beach is nearby, and so are many stores, and the nice arena ends just near the hotel.
In short - this is probably the best place to go on vacation with the family , and of course that going there around winter time gives a kind of summer vacation especially if you come from a cold European country, but that's the weather... Oh, and also makes your stay a lot cheaper...

This hotel is touted as five star but the poor service started as soon as we pulled up with a sour doormen - no-one to take our bags - no friendly greeting - we were virtually ignored as we struggled with bags. Continued with not getting the room we had booked, sullen and rude staff at both reception and the bellboys. The rooms are very average with stained carpets and definitely not worth a five star rating. Would not bother with this hotel again - it is worthy of about a three star rating and is significantly overpriced. Go to Jordan if you want excellent service and a friendly greeting.

Big Disappointment
The hotel staff don't smile or seem happy (the guests don't either)

The fire alarm went off (twice) in the middle of the night. The front desk apologized for the "mistake".
The toilet didn't flush properly. The air conditioning didn't work.
The shower water pipes were rusty (I needed to let the water run for a couple of minutes to clear it)
Not something I'd expect at a 5 star hotel. After complaining they gave us another room.

The spa was small. The receptionist didn't even bother to show us around the spa facilities
Breakfast was ok (not more than that), Sky lounge was nice,

In the evening, the hotel concierge offered to book us places at the "Miflat HaAcharon" restaurant. He rang up, told them he was calling from Herrods Hotel. They told him there were only available places at 18:00 and 22:00. We rang up from our mobiles five minutes later and were told we could book at 20:30 (basically, the concierge is rubbish)

When we checked out, the clerk said "All is in order - you can leave".. no "thank you for staying with us" or anything.

Big Disappointment.
I wouldn't stay here again
