“Good B&B Option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We were a family of three and were recommened the Cactus by Shulamit Dive Center. We took the larger of the two rooms Sandra rents out. It had a anteroom with a bed, fridge and fan but no aircon athough it did get cool air from the very good (and silent) airconditioner in the main room. The fridge had a a large bottle of water and milk thoughtfully included.

The main bedroom had a large double bed futon style on a wooden platform with lots of colorful sheets, throws and cushions in a stlish minimalist style. The room also had a small TV with cable, fast free WIFI and a second single bed--so you can sleep four in the room. Rooms are small and have no cupboard space so if you have alot of luggage you will be cramped.

Bathroom is normal sized with a shower--the latch had come off the shower control when we arrived and remained broken during our stay, but it was easy to control the water using the small white plastic button the latch normally connects to.

Room was very clean and Sandra had thoughtfully turned on the airconditioner before we got there so it was nice and cool when we entered--a welcome respite from the fierce heat in Eilat. Note that rooms aren't serviced--trash bags, extra toilet paper, liquid body soap, dish cleaning product and a squeedgie to clean the water off the tiles in the bathroom are provided to you though.

Breakfast was okay but nothing fancy: juice, toast, yoghurt, hard boiled egg, an apple and spreads. Another reviewer mentioned cereal which we didn't see. Sandra will give you coupons entitling you to a 10% discount at the wonderful Pedro's restaurant a few steps from the Cactus B&B. Make sure to try it at least once. It specializes in meat and fish but as a vegetarian I found some great options too. It is essential to book on Friday night when restaurants that are open over the Sabbath are limited.

As other reviewers have noted there are several small supermarkets (including 24 hour one) within a few minutes walk as well as a large laundromat.Note that the ATM in the supermarket across the street charges a high commission and limits you to a 400 INS withdrawal--otherwise it's a 20 minute walk to the main banks, like Bank Leumi which will let you take out far more commission free. The area is a very quiet and safe residential area. It isn't easy to find the Cactus B&B as you can't drive to it--you have to walk down an alley way. But Sandra will give you very good directions. It may be easier to tell the taxi to take you to Pedro's as taxis know that.

You pay a deposit via Paypal to hold the room and the balance in cash upon arrival. We were told if we arrived early Sandra could keep our dive luggage but there wouldn't be a place to change or a means of using the toilet, so plan your arrival accordingly.

Although they are colorful towels in the room rather than the standard white hotel ones for room use only, they aren't for taking outside the rooms. Ask Sandra to loan you separate beach towels.

Cactus is simple but clean and a welcome antidote to the heaving hotels packed after the Ramadan and Jewish holidays. Sandra responds to e-mail correspondence very efficiently and is helpful in calling taxis or offering advice on local matters. We enjoyed out stay here.

A quiet, clean and well serviced B&B. Rooms are basic but well sized. We enjoyed our private patio complete with friendly and welcoming cat. Coffee and tea always available. Breakfasts were very good. Sandra was helpful in providing a map and local information. Conveniently located near a small market for all your grocery needs, several very nice restaurants and within walking distance of the downtown.

The Cactus B&B is a small B&B with only a few rooms. Our room was in a stand-alone building. The attached picture shows the room - the room is smaller than the picture shows, but it's still a decent size room. As you can see, it is decorated very nicely.

Breakfasts were substantial with a hard-boiled egg, cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc.

The neighborhood is nice with conveniences. There's a grocery store immediately accross the street, that sells most of what you'd want - it also has an ATM, which was handy. To go into downtown Eilat, required an inexpensive cab ride - and taxis always seemed to be driving in the area, so they were easy to get. There are several restaurants within easy walking distance, and a laundramat is just down the street.

We had to go to a Bar-Mitzva celabration in Eilat and decided to stay for a night and enjoy the great spring weather and the cool sea. As we do-not like to stay a dull standard hotels when travelling, we were very glad to stay with Sandra at the Cactus B&B. This is a small and very friendly place, clean and comfortable. Great location and we will certainly come back on our next visit to Eilat. Thanks Sandra for your kind hospitality and great breakfast!

We liked our room at the Cactus B&B in Eilat a lot. Sandra offers a wonderful breakfast and all informations on where to go in Eilat and surroundings. The room is not luxurious but clean and everything is available (except for a hair dryer that she gave me only when I asked for it). You can sit outside under a Jacaranda tree. The neighbourhood is quiet. There is a 24 hour shop right over the street. You need a car to get around.

This was my 4th stay at the Cactus B&B and once again Sandra proved to be a most wonderful host. Her knowledge of the surrounding areas and her personal contacts with the people makes trips to Israeli destinations and other places like Petra and Wadi Rum, Jordan awesome and worry-free experiences.
Absolutely one of my favorite B&B's in all my travels!
