The hotel seemed more like a bed & breakfast than a hotel per se, but what made the trip memorable was the personal, family-like treatment we got from the family running the hotel. The patriarch, Ikhsan, is a very friendly man who has a good nature, big smile and a big heart to go along with it.
He personally cooked us eggs for breakfast (Major plus) and let me just say it was the best fried egg I ever had! He put chilli powder on it and it was yum! We later found out he once worked as a chef for quite some time in Germany!
On our last day at the hotel, my friend and I had a 9pm bus back to Istanbul. And although we had checked out at 12pm, Ikhsan allowed us to stay well past the check out time and hang out at his rooftop terrace. He even made for us a hearty dinner!
Rilican (pronounced reeleejan) is truly a hidden gem in this city. It's a 10 min walk up a hill from the bus terminal (I recommend making a call for them to pick you up if you have bags and luggages. They're very nice about it!). When my friend and I arrived at the bus terminal on our first day in Selcuk, the car was used to ferry another guest elsewhere, but the daughter told us to take a cab and when we arrived, paid the cab fare for us. INCREDIBLE.
I would definitely recommend Rilican to travellers who are looking for a personalised stay experience and something more than just a five star hotel lobby.
