We spent 3 nights at Urkmez. The room was simple with a small balcony looking out onto the castle, which was beautifully lit at night. The room had its own heater/AC and it quickly warmed the room even by turning it off when we left during the day. The bathroom had a small leak and we usually only wear socks in the room (hotel provides slippers!) so we had to be careful to avoid the small puddle on the floor.
The best, though, was the staff. The manager and his brother speak excellent English and saved us time and money repeatedly by telling us which museums were closed (sadly, the town museum with many Efes artifacts was under renovation but they showed us another local museum with the town's more recent history which was free and interesting) and how to take the train back to the Izmir airport rather than a bus to the city center (cheaper and direct to the airport)! The housekeeper/cook who prepared a delicious Turkish breakfast each morning was sweet and friendly. And one night there was a city-wide power outage which only lasted maybe 20 minutes but the manager right away had all the hallways lit with candles... lovely.
The hotel has a small book exchange in the sitting area. The wifi was strong in our room and in the comfortable sitting area. We found a great Turkish movie (English subtitles) filmed in Central Turkey which we borrowed for an evening and watched on our laptop.
Great visit; I can highly recommend the Urkmez.
