Cem – the hotel owner - pick us up at the bus station, very convenient and such a warm welcome. The hotel is in fact about a 10-minute stroll from the bus station on a quiet street just beside the police station and a restaurant that serves delicious fare.
The place is very home-y. Rooms are pretty basic but clean with heater during the winter, big shower/toilet. Rooftop has an amazing view of the castle and spot a stork flying over. They don’t have an elevator though, so you have to walk up stairs if your room is on the top floor, yet, it’s a small hotel so no sweat.
The complimentary breakfast was real nice – omellette, bread and delicious pastries, coffee and the usual turkish breakfast fare.
The staff were so helpful and very courteous, monetary tips are somehow discouraged, got embarassed at one time when I tried to offer and got turned down by this young friendly fellow who serves us breakfasts and made efforts to converse with us every now and then.
Cem is a very gregarious fellow, giving you information about the area. He had arranged a very convenient and affordable way for us to get to Pamukkale for a day tour, about 2-hour ride from Selcuk. Ask him for good restaurants around the area, he knows the best ones. PC is available at the reception for internet and downloading photos.
The entrance to Ephesus is a long walk from the hotel, but not the house of the Virgin Mary as it is perched on the top of the mountain. St. John Basiclica is about a 10-minute walk a little up the hill.
When in Selcuk, this place is one of the best, if not the best, base for exploring Ephesus, the House of Virgin Mary, and even Pamukkale...
for me at least.
Very much recommended!
