“Pretty Cool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

These ruins are pretty cool. It was nice to walk around - there weren't so many people and explore the signs and ruins very quietly. It's too bad the castle above was closed. The signage was generally above average and the information was helpful.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Nicely maintained ruined cathedral, well worth an hour or so to wander about and imagine what it must have looked like in its day. Not crowded.

“Holy Land”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We were virtually alone among the ruins of St John's remains and his cathedral. Incredible feeling compared to the zoos of Western European notable churches and saint remains. It helped me connect to how it must've been like in the time of the early church.

“A hallowed ground”

Even if you are not a pilgrim, Christian, or history buff, seeing this once large basilica, where St. John passed is a must see in south western Turkey.

“Most Impressive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

In its day this must have been an amazing Cathedral. It was very moving to see the tomb of St. John. The baptismal font is a great example of eary church architecture. It was easy to visualise the adults descenmding into the font and emerging on the opposite side. A real resurrection ! Well worth a visit.
