A peaceful haven--cool and quiet and green. Everything is surrounded by date palms, trees, and vines. The walkways are trellised with jasmine and wisteria. The food was the best we had in Turkey, and that is a high compliment. The mixed grill with lamp chops and kofti was superb, served with local wines, in which they specialize. Everything was fresh from the surrounding countryside. They feature a quiet cave with tastings. The staff attentive and helpful. The manager is fluent in English. The rooms are charming and very clean. The hotel is decorated with local antigues, quaint furniture, and kilims. There are turtles and swallows as well as a dovecote.
Very convenient to the ruins of Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis and the lovely museum. The pool with poolside bar was wonderful after a day in the sun. This inn is deep in the mountains, with an ancient Turkish fort towering in the background, and surrounded by farms of peaches, cucumbers, melons, tomatoes, corn, pomegrantes, quince, lime, and olive trees. The Kalehan was perfect. Next time, we will stay much longer.
