“Selcuk..and Hotel Nilya must!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

For visitors to Ephesus, staying in Selcuk is a must, and I would highly recommend staying at Hotel Nilya. Each room is so clean, with beautiful Turkish décor. The bathrooms are beautiful!!! Completed updated with tumbled marble and a rain shower. The hotel is perched on a very quiet residential street/alley overlooking the beautiful valley. As other reviewers have stated, the hotels courtyard with a lemon tree in the middle is so picturesque, quiet and relaxing.

Service was exemplary! Erdal, our host and hotel owner did everything possible to make your stay as memorable as possible. His staff were extremely professional and friendly. Erdal coordinated our airport transfer from Izmir airport to the Hotel and it was timely and effortless. Erdal drove us to/from Ephesus, the 7 Sleepers, and Virgin Mary’s house. On our free day, Erdal coordinated a last minute excursion to Hieropolis and Pamukkale for us. Fantastic!

Ancient sights and the town center are so close, and easily walked. St John’s Basilica and Isa Bey Mosque are only 2 blocks from the hotel. The remains of the Temple of Artemis is viewable from the hotel and is approx. 400 yards away.

Complimentary Breakfast included a wide variety of fresh fruit, olives, cheese, and the most beautiful fresh eggs. We enjoyed a bottle of wine from their well-stocked bar with a bowl of nuts each evening relaxing next to the fountain in the courtyard. We enjoyed a traditional Turkish dinner on the rooftop of his sister hotel, Hotel Bella, just a block away.

It is hard to find fault with anything during our stay, but if I was pressed to find something that was not fantastic with the hotel, it would be that one of our twin beds (Room 6) had rather squeaky springs that occasionally kept woke us up. We laughed about it, but a little oil would do it.

We would recommend this hotel without reservation.

Room Tip: Although twin rooms were not ideal, we enjoyed room 6 for it's second floor ovation and quietnes...

A delightful, small hotel built around a shaded, leafy courtyard in the old part of town. Truly lovely with small but perfectly formed rooms and modern bathrooms. Staff were friendly and helpful (everyone is loaned a book about Ephesus during their stay) and the breakfast was a good turkish spread with the option to also have cooked eggs in whatever style you want.

I would say this is the better option vs the sister property - Hotel Bella. It is quieter and has lovely outdoor space off the rooms.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms open on to a terrace with views to the coast. The "suite" is a bit larger a...

Great ,very clean rooms with Turkish design throughout. Breakfast was fantastic, staff were wonderful.
The location was great, walk a few steps and you are amongst ancient pillars and ruins. Great restaurants a few steps away. We had 4 rooms and all were great.
Loved it!

Our third leg of our trip to Turkey brought us to Selcuk, Izmir. Initially, we had tried to book at Hotel Bella, but the hotel informed us that they were fully booked. But the hotel referred us to their sister hotel, Nilya, that was a short block and a half away.

Arriving late in the evening, our cab driver had a little trouble finding Nilya until he asked a local, who directed our driver to the hotel. Seldar came out and greeted us and brought in our bags. Then Erdal, one of the co-owners of Nilya and Bella, came from Bella to greet us. He gave us a briefing on Ephesus and scheduled the time for our shuttle there the next morning, which was complementary.

The room was nice-sized and beautifully adorned in Turkish carpets and ceramics. Loved the modern bathroom. The hotel has complementary Wi-Fi with a strong connection. (yelp.com/biz_photos/nily…) (yelp.com/biz_photos/nily…)

The hotel is on two levels that opens to a beautiful courtyard, where breakfast is served in the morning and where you can relax after a day touring Ephesus. The hotel serves a Turkish breakfast plate of fruits and veggies, bread and jams, eggs cooked to order, and coffee and tea. A nice healthy breakfast to start your day.

Meeting at Bella, Erdal drove us to Ephesus for our visit of the Roman ruins and arranged to pick us up three hours later. When he picked us up and brought us to a restaurant for gozleme, a delicious Turkish pancakes (quesadilla). He then bought us to Cemetery of Seven Sleepers before bringing us back to the Hotel. Later, for a small fee, we arranged for a ride, which was handled by one of the hotel workers, to the site of the House of Mary.
When we returned back to Bella, the other co-owner, Nazmi, gave us a tour of his carpet and ceramic tile store located next to Bella. He provides an informative presentation to carpets and shows pride in his carpets.

Overall, we had a great stay at Nilya Hotel. So happy that Bella directed us to their sister hotel. Great friendly service from owners and the staff. Beautiful and serene hotel with a nice courtyard. Hotel is also located three short blocks to a restaurant and shopping area.

We were at the hotel three nights and wished we'd booked for longer. The courtyard is a beautiful garden, the rooms are super clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The hotel is run and staffed by a family, and they treat their guests like honored family visitors. I could not recommend Hotel Nilya more highly.

As an example of their willingness to go above and beyond, my mother had badly sprained her ankle before we arrived. Knowing that it would be difficult for her to walk to any of the nearby restaurants, they offered to go get meals for us from their sister restaurant five blocks and up a steep hill away - two nights in a row. And, they took my mom her breakfast to the room all the days we were there. They were so thoughtful and so lovely to us, and the hotel itself was such a wonderful place to stay, I would happily stay there for several weeks.

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor so you overlook the courtyard but still have a view from your front door.

We chose this hotel based on the very good reviews it received on Trip Advisor. This is one of the few cases where I find I don't agree with the majority. We were lucky enough to have paid quite a bit extra for the "suite" on the second level. Our room was fine and nicely decorated. Our friends were in the standard rooms on the ground floor which were small and dark. Overall we found this hotel expensive compared with other similar hotels we had stayed in in many towns in Turkey (but maybe Selcuk is more expensive because it is close to Ephesus). Breakfast was also more limited than in most places of similar quality. We found the owner to be quite pushy for us to go to the restaurant in the other hotel he owned, which we ended up doing because there were 8 of us and other places seemed quite small. The location of the restaurant was great but the food was very average. He was also very disparaging about the company we had chosen for our Ephesus tour (see separate review) probably because we hadn't booked through him. Overall I struggle to see why this hotel gets such a high rating.

We stayed at the Nilya for two nights while on a 5-week trip through the Middle East. While slightly on the upper end of our average room cost, the Nilya does offer good value, particularly when factoring in the complimentary transfers to various locations. Selcuk is also a great base to explore Ephesus. Our room was clean, with a modern bathroom, and decorated with Turkish art. The breakfast was very good and served in the walled courtyard, which was also a good base for relaxing at the end of the day with a cold Efis. Their sister hotel, the Bella, just a short walk away, offers a set plate dinner at a very reasonable price, served on a roof-top terrace. Nazim, the owner was extremely generous with his time, driving us to Ephesus, a lunch spot and then to a hilltop village in the afternoon. He also owns a gallery with Turkish Art and rugs and, of course, he would like you to make some purchases but there was no real pressure to buy.
