“Beautiful Park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Lovely park high up in the hills surrouds the area where Blessed Virgin Mary spent the last years of her life. Small chuch is no over the site of her home. Really enjoyed the beauty & serenity of this lovely park dedicated to the Blessed Virgin.

“An Unexpected Silence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

I was unprepared for the experience of entering into the small house-now-church. No matter what religion, every one of us 20 who entered became silent. No signs asking for silence. No person asking for silence. Silence just fell over each one of us. Goose bumps were out in full force. I found myself touching the bricks, wondering if Mary had touched them once. It was surreal to be in the very-real home of a woman who had only existed in the Bible. Just go! (And don't forget to cover your head and shoulders!)

“Meryemana (The Virgin Mary's House), Turkey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

There is something special that happens when a large crowd gathers for worship. A feeling comes over you that is unique and uplifting. So it was for me at the "The Virgin Mary's House" despite the fact that I am not particularily religious. Archaelogists tell us that John visited Ephesus. In a biblical statement (John 19:26-27) Jesus consigned Mary to John's care knowing he would be cruxified. The house is of the 6th/7th century but the foundation is 1rst century and coincides with the time of Jesus and Mary. Three popes have visited the simple stone house, Paul the VI, John Paul VI and Benedict XVI. On the Assumption of Mary at age 64, August 15 of every year, Catholic, Orthodox and Muslim clergy conduct service at the simple stone house. This is a rare event in this world. There is a stream that runs under the house and people take small jugs and gather it to take home to loved ones. There is also a wall full of notes and wishes that the faithful write and place on the wall. In the house there is an altar, image of Mary and candles. Situated a short 3 miles between Selcuk and Ephesus, the house is well worth a visit and the experience of a sacred place.

“A beautiful place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

We were on a full day tour and this was the first place we visited and had just opened. Our guide explained everything to us beforehand as he had to be silent once we got near to and inside the small house. It's a beautiful and tranquil place, very special. All the shops and tourist stuff are away from the house itself which is good.

A fantastic experience.
