To be clear, writing this under my wife's Trip Advisor account. It's a ruin, but still...this guy knew Jesus! Across the street from Hotel Bella, so easy to see quickly. Actually pretty easy to visualize it - must have been grand at the time and the view now across the countryside is beautiful. There are a lot of small rooms - like the Treasury - to explore and pay close attention to the columns because you can find ancient Christian inscriptions incised upon them. They claim John is buried there - and the guy who is in charge of the renovation of the site (who we ran into) claims you can see into the sarcophagus and see a skeleton - but I don't know. In any event, as in the House of Mary, it's clearly of religious significance to many folks (we ran into a traveling priest for who John is his patron saint, so it was very moving for him) so if you want to try and understand your fellow man, you should visit. I'm not Catholic, so not into the saints but am interested in John as a historical figure and author. If you are in Selcuk for other sites you really need to see this.
