“One of the best restaurants near Ephesus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

When we arrived in Selcuk in the morning with our friends, we've found Mikhail in this beautiful, calm and cozy place.

He brought one of the best coffee we've ever had in Turkey and great breakfast for our company.

We enjoyed our meal and were happy with atmosphere in this place and it's great and friendly owners :) Thank you very much and have a great business.

“Great place for a light lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Most tourists in Selcuk have spent the morning at Ephesus. This means that by lunch time they are hot, tired and thirsty. We too were like that, and we were hungry, but we did not want a full lunch, nor did we want oily or fried food (pizza and kebab places abound). On the street where tourist information is we saw some small places. One caught our eye as in the window was a sign noting Swiss specialties, such as Swiss rosti. St. John Cafe struck us as simple, straightforward and an oasis of calm. It is a cafe, so the beverage menu had some delightful options, such as various chilled juices (including apricot) and several hot and cold coffee drinks. The iced coffee with milk came in a milkshake type glass -- it definitely hit the spot on a hot June day. We choose one hummus for two, and then a Greek salad and a tuna salad plate. Both were made with the freshest ingredients (the tomatoes were so ripe, red and delicious). There was toasted whole wheat bread. The proprietress, Doris Degirmenci Schmuki, carefully prepared the dishes and served us. We left completely refreshed, satisfied but not stuffed, and ready for to climb the hill to St John's Basilica.

“Great coffee!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

After drinking many cups of so-so coffee in Turkey, including the ubiquitous Nescafe as well as Turkish coffee, it was wonderful to get a decent espresso. We received a warm welcome from the Swiss owner and enjoyed a cool and restful break here from the heat of the day.
