“Something a litte bit different in Istanbul - don't miss it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

We booked this restaurant on the basis of very good reviews from a variety of sources online. We spoke to them before we came and they were helpful, especially as two of our party didn't eat shellfish. We ate there on a Friday night - it was 3/4 full with a fairly upmarket clientele. We took advantage of their complimentary taxi service to and from our hotel which was prompt and courteous. Giritli is a bit off the beaten track so worth taking advantage of this. The four course set menu is what is on offer and it was delicious and different. The first course a set of 20 different fish and veggie meze dishes. Lovely and unusual tastes - you don't expect to like them all but we loved nearly all of them and there were some really different ingredients used. Not your usual homous and pitta type thing. The second course was a smaller set of hot appetizers. Squid and calamari are the main events. Our friends said it was excellent. We don't eat it so were given grilled haloumi, smoked mackerel and cheese and herb flat bread instead. All yummy. Main course is a choice of 3 -4 fish of the day, served simply with salad. The seabass was excellent although by then we were stuffed! Dessert was two very unusual dishes - mini sugar donut type cakes and an unusual pudding made with tahini. Not too sweet but still lovely. Finally a home made cherry liquer and hot drink of your choice. The unlimited wine, beer and water was attentively refilled. The service was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. They seem very proud of what they do at Giritli and rightly so. Give it a try! We loved it.

“Culinary adventure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

Difficult to reach for people not familiar with the city.
Simple and plain decor. Knowledgeable, but, snobby staff.
Set menu costs YTL 135 per person.
Includes 21 cold vegetarian and seafood mezze. Experienced a lot of new flavors. Very exotic.
Two hot appetizers, lightly fried calamari and octopus were very tasty.
Main course was grilled sea bass, that was well cooked, but, nothing to write home about.
Dessert was a mix of tahini and peanut butter.
House drinks were included.
With mentioning was the refreshing tissue was packed in a small plastic circular container, that was released by pushing in the center like a button.
Go with a big appetite and set apart at least a couple of hours to really enjoy this gastronomy experience.

“Unbelievable food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

We located the restaurant before the evening of our booking, and the location is a little off-putting but do not let that stop you visiting this restaurant as the food is amazing.
It is a set menu with limited choice. First up 20 mezze plates (between 2 of us!) with some amazing flavours. Sea bass cerviche was my favourite. Having polished this lot off, it was then a stuffed bread, accompanied by octopus in olive oil and salt & pepper squid. Fresh and lovely flavours, I would go back for this alone. Main course was a choice of sea bass, fish kebab or silver fish (very large whitebait). The sea bass was amazing, but the silver fish also looked good. Desert was thankfully small - baklava and what I think was a chestnut based puree. Apple tea to finish. This plus unlimited wine/beer/raki for £38! Why wouldnt you go.

“Great food, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2014

The idea behind this restaurant is that you leave filled to the brim. The menu is set as are the drinks. Cost for all drinks and food comes to 135tl. However this is much more than all you can eat. The meal starts with 22 meze. These are Cretan in style, with some excellent fish dishes. These are followed by small hot appetisers and a fish main. Service is great, unobtrusive and attentive - our wine glasses were only empty for a couple of minutes. The dinning area is pleasant - as it was the start of the season we missed the courtyard. Book in advance as even out of season it does get busy. Great food, great service, great price.

“Good surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

A really good surprise! Fixed menu, delicious and a very good price! And all drinks included.
The very best part is the starters, amazing. And after we have a delicious octopus with fried calamares and a prawn pide roll that were fantastic. And later we had a fish. We loved!
