“most recommended but not the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

ok well but not the best fish in town as mentioned. People who go there are genuine Istanbul people.

“Cant be more "seaside" than that...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

“Did expect more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2012

We visited Ismet Baba with a big expectation. We know this restaurant for many years and it has been always very good. We haven't been there for 8 years and we were so excited to see how it changed. The restaurant itself is still situated at the same place with the best views to the Bosphorus that you can get. The tables were very plain. No tablecloth at all. We were pushed to a table next to the wall even if there were some empty tables next to the seaside. Within seconds they came with the tray of the starters even before we could order something to drink. The plates were just pushed onto our table. We had decided to go for the "Kalkan" which is a very famous fish and we always liked it. It was quite expensive and the board showed 60 Turkish Lira for one Portion. We ordered two portions of that fish and after we had hardly finished our starters the fish arrived on the plates. We actually don't mind to spend quite a bit of money for good food but that plate wasn't worth 60 Turkish Lira. There were two slices of Kalkan, 3 rocket leaves and half of a raw onion. That was it! We did eat the fish which was good. In the meantime another guest arrived and he was treated like a King. About 5 waiters were running around his table while we were sitting stupidly in the corner. We quickly paid and left and decided not to come back again

“Modest fish restaurant by the sea with great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2011

I am a regular customer of this restaurant. If you love fish and if you are in Istanbul, you should try this restaurant. That is close to Üsküdar, on the Asian side. You can reach it by 20 minutes from Üsküdar centre if you don't want to take any taxi, bus or "dolmus". You will be presented typically the tray of the starters where you can see and chose. The fish that is available are listed on the wall with prices. If it is "lüfer" time, you should absolutely try that. If you want to have a table by the sea, you must call some days ago. It is a small restaurant and the tables with a good view are limited. The restaurant accepts only cash, that's the only negative point.

“Simple but one of the best for local fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2011

For years, we are going to this restaurant and we never had any trouble with the food. Our local sea food is very fragile and long consevation ends up with a considerable lost of taste. From this point of view, this restaurant is one of the best to find freshest sea food. Starters are delicious and reasonably priced. Staff is always smiling.
You can go with no hesitation, just don't forget to have enough cash, credit cards are not accepted.
