“Great experience - Delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Our lunch at Ciya Sofrasi was great. It's only 5 minutes walk from the ferry terminal. Do not stop at the many restaurants trying to get you in - head straight to Ciya Sofrasi. You will love it. A number of people have commented on the confusing ordering process and so were we. But it appears that this is ow you do it..

When you walk in, there is hot food on your left and salads on your right.

1. Go to the hot food area first and decide what you would like from there. Don't over order or you will end up with heaps of food you can't finish. The servers will help you and you can get half portions of things. Some of the servers speak very good English. They will write down yor hot food on a piece of paper and gie it back to you.

2. Go to the salad area. Get a plate and help yourself to the salads. There is someone there who will weigh your food and give you a receipt with the cost of the salads. Ours were 10 lira each person.

3. Take your salad and your piece of paper from (1) above to your table.

4. Give your waiter your paper from (1) above and order your drinks at the same time. They will probably take your cold food receipt at this stage also. Order your drinks if you haven't already.

5. Your waiter will return with your hot food and your drinks.

It's reasonably straight forward once you get there and is a great way to dine.

Enjoy!

“Must eat here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Get on the ferry, walk thru the wonderful local market and keep going. It is worth the trip.
Yes ordering can be confusing but that is part of the fun! Fresh and seasonal ingredients and tastes. Just point out the dishes on the hot side and be prepared to be delighted. If in Istanbul for awhile go back again as hot dishes always changing. Best hummus I have had and desserts incredible. Be brave and go beyond baklava and try the walnuts with clotted cream! Incredible!
Service was friendly and wait staff helpful.

“A memorable feast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013 via mobile

Great spot in Kadikoy for Ottoman cuisine. Ordering process is a bit confusing.... We didn't get the size of the portions & completely over-ordered. Meze was good & mains were really nice. Not badly priced for the amount of food we got... I was so full I almost burst afterwards! Staff don't speak much English so brush up on your Turkish!

“Not great”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is over-hyped. The food was ok, or at least what I got. Some stuff were weird. I had a stuffed chicken which had no bite to it. It dissolved into your mouth. I know I might sound picky, but I don't like eating like a geriatric. The service was poor and this put me off. The restaurant does not seem geared to cater to solo customers. I had to self pick mains from a bar. Being from out of town, I didn't know sizes and ended up over ordering because i did not know. It wasn't like I received any help from the staff - none of whom could converse with me in English. They pointed me to the cook, who was working through lunch hour. I left disappointed.

“Great local food! ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013 via mobile

Instructions: get a table, and choose your favorite meze-dishes from the salad bar. When youve finished that, order soup (red lentil is great) and main dishes by pointing at the caseroles in by the entrance. This will be brought to your table. Make sure you come hungry! Big portions! We can recommend this! But order only one main dish, our bill was 95 lire!
