“Amazing places but disappointing hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

Hi, evryone
I have been together with my wife for the very first time in Instanbul for a citybreak of 3 nights to Amisos Boutique Hotel, recomanded by my travel agent
Location is quite all right but only just taking into consideration the historical sites around Sultanahmet.
The rooms are small ,but cozy and cleaned every day.The only big issue during my 3 day staying here ,was that on 24-25 degrees Celsius outside, inside was probably 27-28 degrees. And now the big surprise ,unexpected from 4 * boutique hotel:when you wanted the turn on the A/C it goes automaticaly only on heating!!(centralized system)
With all discussions I had with the front desk it was no way to turn the A/C on chiller system, probably because of increasing the costs .
The other big problem it was that the street where it's located this hotel seems it's like a "national road" where all the buses, minibuses, cars, concret trucks, you named it, are running almost 20/24 hrs and we found out (after we have riched the place) that is the only way which connect Sultanahmet by the others districts. The noise was absolutely unsupportable, and we have slept no more than 4-5 hours per night, because you had to choose between having a little fresh air by having window open and have the noise from passing cars on the street"free of charge" , or having a little bit of quitness(closing window) but in condition of doing in the same "sauna" because of internal temperature.
On one more thing related to the hotel:breakfast was far away from a 4* boutique hotel could offer, very poor and no to many options to improve, and belive me I was travelling o lot around Europe and I assume this comment.Sorry but this it's the reality. The expectations are different from a 4 * hotel ,because the prices are quite different than 3* or 2 * hotels(at least you know what you pay for it)
In rest I would say that the histrorical sites are very well preserved and really worth every penny of visiting these!
So we came back more tied than we have left, but at least we will remained in our memory with all these superb landscapes & amazing places.
From my point just few tips for having a nice & pleasant citybreak or holiday before you go:check 2 times the sorroundings & condition of the hotel you would like to book.Read reviews from trusted travel sites

Have a nice & pleasant holliday wherever you will riched this year! Enjoy every minute!

Regards

George & Daniela

The hotel is well placed for walking to most of the major sites and is right next to the tram line for easy access to/from the airport. The rooms are small and the heating seemed to be onl permanently. However, they were clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. A note of caution, the sports bar, the North Shield, which is part of the hotel charges double the going rate for a beer whilst you watch the football on TV - save your lira and take a walk to one of the back street bars showing the same game. I ate at Pasazade nearby (5 minutes walk) and recommend it very highly.

Room Tip: Get a room on the upper floors.

Stayed at the Amisos Boutique Hotel with my family of 6. Location is perfect, central to all the major sites in and around Sultanahmet. Staff are very friendly and helpful and rooms are very clean and Cody. Best part is the North Shield Pub downstairs showed the AFL Grandfinal live.

We stayed two nights at the begining of july 2011. The hotel is located in a very convenient location (at the heart of the old city, and a walking distence from major attractions). The rooms were small, but nicely decorated and well equipped. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. The next door pub is a fine coplimentry to this fine hotel.
We'll be back!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2011

Myself and my wife stayed here in one of the "Blue" rooms for 4 nights. The furniture is unusually retro styled but we liked it.

The staff here were very friendly, helpful and honest (unlike at some of the other hotels we stayed at in Turkey).

The location of the hotel is excellent, right outside a tram stop and within a short walk of ferries, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, and Grand Bazaar. If you enjoy a beer, it is also next to the North Shield pub (which has all sorts of Western sport live on TV, including Australian NRL, rugby, etc).

The room was clean and comfortable, though a little small. It was a little confusing at first how to operate the aircon and powerpoints at first, but we eventually worked this out (a particular unlabeled switch in the room needed to be activated)

At night we had to keep the window shut and aircon on to avoid noise from the street below, but we were very comfortable with the aircon on and window shut.

Breakfast was also good.

Summary - we would stay here again. Its not perfect, but clean and comfortable. The staff were one of the highlights - exceptionally helpful and friendly. The main negatives were the modern auto-flush toilet (I'd prefer a manual button press) and noise from the street at night (though the room is very quiet with the window shut).

Fantastic location, close to good restaurants In the centre of the REAL Istanbul. The rooms were comfortable, clean and practical for our two short stays at the beginning and end of our self - organised tour of Turkey prior to onward travel to Greece.
We are deeply indebted to Mr Ozan, the front desk manager, for his invaluable help and assistance. He expertly enabled us (pensioners) to overcome the language difficulties and other unforeseen problems including telephonic arrangement of car hire collection and delivery and reservations for our subsequent bus journey to Greece. Mr Ozan arranged for our seamless transition through the hotel and impressed us with his adorable English accent.
The staff were very helpful and courteous and contributed to the highlights Istanbul.

Room Tip: In this location, all the rooms seem to be perfect
