“Loved this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

Charming, lovely, intimate, attentive, wonderful location. I cannot say enough about this place. I was traveling with my mom and we had a room with two double beds. The rooms were not spacious but certainly big enough for the two of us, we did not feel cramped at all. I loved the decor and everything was very comfortable and clean. Not only was the location within easy walking distance of all the historic sites but it was very quite at night, even with the window open and we felt very safe walking around in the evening too. After each hectic day, I would drag myself to the rooftop for a quite beer or appetizers. It was a godsend and overlooked the gardens of Topkapi palace. People were friendly and the food in the fish restaurant which is run by the hotel was very good as well. We did not have enough time to really explore the city as we only had two full days, but if I go back, this will definately be the place I stay!

We found the Sirkeci Kohak Hotel online thru Trip Advisor but we were not sure what we would find. We had come from a Silversea cruise and upon arrival found our room was ready for us. We noticed a few guests were checking out to join the Silver Cloud and so we felt more relaxed. Our room was lovely, large and had everything we needed. The Hotel gave us a very welcomed complimentary dinner. We joined another couple staying in the hotel also from our cruise (co-incidentally). Each night we had complimentary drinks and canapes. The staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, especially DIlhan. They could not do enough for us. Many of the sights were within walking distance and also great restaurants were just around the corner. Upon our departure, they drove us to the airport (complimentary) gave us a lovely gift and all waved good bye as we left. It was a truly memorable stay. A BIG thank you to the excellent staff. We will be back.

My wife and I had a most enjoyable stay at the Sirkeci Konak in September 2010. This was our first visit to Istanbul, and our entire stay was a wonderful experience. The service from the hotel staff exceeded our expectations - particular thanks to Dilhan for her warm welcome and helpful attention at all times. The breakfasts were great, and we also enjoyed the cooking class. We have no hesitation in recommending this very well-located hotel.

An excellent hotel. Staff are very very helpful and pleasant. Nice Turkish coffee. The tea and Simeet filled with cheese in the afternoons are great.

Staff showed me around and gave me directions.

I will definitely do my best to go back.

We spent two nights on a layover at this hotel. It was remarkable. This property plants you in the middle of the high profile tourist attractions. It is stunning yet simplistic. The balconies were charming, the rooms were simple but local in decor and very clean. They put a high value on service and made efforts far beyond what you will get in a chain. If you prefer to walk into your room and find the exact same decor whether you are in Dallas or Dubai, go find the Marriott. On the other hand, if you prefer the boutique experience with some local flavor, this little gem will suit you nicely. They sat down at the beginning and end of our stay, and offered helpful hints and insider tips along the way. As mentioned in other reviews, their four restaurants are reasonable, authentic, and fresh. We tried two of them. The transfer from the airport was convenient and it was a nice touch that the driver was waiting, holding a sign with our names rather than the usual call the hotel when you get their routine. We felt as safe as in any large U.S. metropolitan city...ie after 9 pm it's usually good to limit how far you get off the beaten path. We gained a taste for the complimentary Turkish delight that was waiting when we arrived in our room and appreciated the gift wrapped box they gave us as a parting gift.

Along a narrow street parallel to the Topkapi Palace's ancient outer wall upon which the Parade Pavilion is perched nearby, one who is unfamiliar with the area will have to do some searching to find the dark, innocuous wooden door which opens into the Sirkeci Konak Hotel's cosy lobby.

The friendly, enthusiastic, multi-tasking staff at the Front Desk are as good as - if not better than - any we've encountered at some of the best hotels in major cities.

The prompt and pleasant check-in process includes a helpful briefing accompanied by welcome drinks, finger sandwiches, maps, discount card and complimentary dinner coupons. Ms Ezgi Kepsutlu of the Guest Relations Team attended to us personally and cheerfully answered all our questions, while her colleagues did the same with other arriving guests..

The warm reception we received set the tone for our two stays at this hotel in September and October.

We were not expecting much from the complimentary dinner so were delightfully surprised at the hotel's Sirkeci Balikçisi Seafood Restaurant. Even though we had not yet stayed the required number of nights, each of us was able to select from a menu that offered excellent grilled whole fish, fresh from local waters. The heads and tails were attached, which suited our tastes perfectly; for more fastidious diners, the fish are filleted or de-boned before being served.

The buffet breakfast offers an extensive range of breads, cheeses, nuts, yoghurt, fruits, cereals, juices, etc, and is one of the best we encountered during our holiday in Turkey.

We also dined at the hotel's nearby sister restaurant, Pasazade, and thoroughly enjoyed the Ottoman Cuisine.

During both stays, we were assigned non-smoking rooms per my online bookings. Beds are large and comfortable. Bedroom slippers, bottled water, teas, Turkish Delight and WiFi are free. The rooms are quiet, clean and tastefully furnished, featuring electric kettle, flat panel TV with cable access, mini-bar fridge, writing table, chairs, twin night tables and side tables. Wardrobes are full-sized and house an electronic safe. Lighting is good and there are adequate electricity sockets for charging cameras, mobile phones, laptops.

Ensuite bathrooms are relatively small but well-appointed, with wall-mounted hairdryer, mirror, heated towel bar and a good range of amenities. The jacuzzi bathtub is a nice touch but probably underused.

Istanbul's landmarks are within short walking distances: Sogukçesme Sokak (5 min), Blue Mosque (13 min), Hagia Sophia (10 min), Yerebatan Sarnici Basilica Cistern (11 min), Hippodrome (12 min), Spice Bazaar (18).

Umbrellas are provided free based an an honour system for guests to return them. We were welcomed with free appletea whenever we returned from our excursions. Requests for assistance were always handled cheerfully and expeditiously by the staff.

When checking out, we were presented with an unexpected giftbox of Turkish Delight.

Faruk Boyaci, owner of the Sirkeci Konak Group, and his employees have succeeded in making the Sirkeci Konak Hotel a real gem.

Location was centric -- right by the metro and within walking distance of Topkapi Palace (10 minute walk), Saint (Hagia) Sophia (12 minute walk), Blue Mosque (12 minute walk) and Spice Bazaar (15 minute walk). Plenty of options for dining either at the hotel or in the vicinity.

Breakfast buffet was great with its variety of foods, freshness, and best fresh juices I've had! Room amenities were very nice with slippers, thick Turkish cotton robes, welcome basket of fresh fruit.

Employees were genuinely interested in helping out (not just for the tips). One employee kept entertaining all of our daily questions about the culture, language and pronunciations as if this was the first time he's ever had to answer that when we knew he's had his fair share of people asking the same questions. Ezgi was extremely helpful; always willing to help out -- from guidance on negotiating at the Grand Bazaar to finding a weird electrical adapter.

When we checked out, they gave us very nice parting gifts and all employees came out to say goodbye. I only wish we could clone this hotel, its employees and hospitality and place them wherever we go next.
