My wife and I visited the Sirkeci Konak for our 1st anniversary in October of 2010. We had just finished a 4 day stay in Cappadocia in a cave hotel and a week in Athens/Santorini. Since we had just been to such amazing places, the Sirkeci had a lot to live up to. I was thrilled to find out it was better than I could have imagined.
We took advantage of the free pick up at the Istanbul airport courtesy of the hotel. It was a scenic, bustling drive. The landscape changed dramatically when we entered the old city walls. Very crowded, tons of people, but beautiful architecture and atmosphere. We pulled up to the hotel in a crowded street. It was a bit rushed getting our stuff out of the van and in to the hotel before passing cars drove over us. Honestly, we were so lost in the bustle of the city we couldnt even pick out the hotel from amongst the buidings around it.
Upon entering we were very impressed. The staff was exceedingly kind and catered to our every need. Their english was fantastic and we had a nice tea as we checked in. The lobby and lounge area is very warm and inviting. Just what we wanted after living in a cave hotel for the past 4 days. The restaurant options were quite good, though nothing incredibly memorable. First night dinner was free as part of the special.
Our room was absolutely perfect. We stayed in a standard double room, which was very spacious for the two of us. We were on the second floor, didnt notice any noise. Nice little couch seating area for reviewing maps and planning. The complimentary tea set for our anniversary was a nice touch. Bathroom and shower facilities were spotlessly clean and modern. The internet worked well and the lobby computers were actually very easy to use, no lines or anything.
We loved the Turkish bath in the hotel. Very convenient. We didnt bother going to the official baths in the city because we were so satisfied with the one in our hotel.
The BEST part of this hotel, besides the absolutely impeccable service and comfort, is the ULTIMATE convenience. We were able to easily walk everywhere (Bazaars, Mosques, Palaces, Cisterns, Bosphorus). Our window overlooked the walls of Topkapi Palace. We also felt like we were experiencing the city as well, because the hotel blended in so well with the surroundings. The hotel made Istanbul feel quickly like it was home.
I highly recommend this hotel. There is nowhere else I would want to stay when we come back. I would go to Istanbul just to stay at this hotel. It is also very affordably priced with no dropoff in service.
As a side note, there is an excellent little English pub next to Amisos hotel down the street from Sirkeci Konak (turn right out the front door). My wife thinks they have the best fries in the world.
