“good but not great - staff are excellent though”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2011

I read great reviews on trip advisor for this hotel so booked it but the first thing that you need to know is that the hotel has a name change - now called "Ferman Sultan hotel". This is important to note in case you book on online sites that still refer to it as "Blue Hills" as your cab driver may not know where to take you given that the hotel is off a narrow street in the Sultan Ahmet district and now only identifiable by it's new name on the exterior (next to the red chinese restaurant). The hotel's location is great - a short walk to the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Armenian Cistern, Bazaar etc.. and the trams are a stone's throw away. It's also a 15-20min walk to the ferry terminals and the Galatasaray (?) bridge. The hotel rooms are a good size but I was kept on the ground floor and could hear everything at reception, including the annoying ambience music that plays non-stop during the day (and the track list is cyclical). Showers were not that hot, rooms were clean (relatively), the breakfast menu was repetitive and nothing extraordinary. There are many places in Istanbul to choose from, so apart from the great location and splendid customer service (front-desk staff who took pains to explain local attractions, handy tips to stave off the tourist traps etc.. and trip planning consultations) I probably would explore other options if only to see how they compare.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor

My wife and I just spend six wonderful nights in this hotel. The staff could not have been any more helpful. The rooms are "european", comfy and very clean. The baths are typical of any hotel in England, small but functional. All major sights are right outside of the doorstep! We used it as home base while doing some heavy duty walking tours of the historical Istanbul area. We were very pleased, would certainly return.

I cannot say enough about how nice the staff were, right down to the chamber maid who would not disturb our morning's late sleep-ins.

first off they have changed the name its now the Ferman Sultan hotel. We stayed there for a week, had a great time
. The rooms are on the small side but you are in Istanbul to see the city not hang out in a hotel room. Wonderful breakfast terrace with a view of the Sea of Marmara and the Bosporus, the food was fine . also has an additional terrace on the next floor up great for sitting in the evening. Just a few minute to the Hippodrome and the tram. all in all a good value.

when we got to istanbul no taxi driver had ever heard of this hotel, its not called the blue hills hotel its called ferman sulthan, they changed their name about 3 times, the staff are rude and you have to pester them to have anything done, they stuck me in the room outside of the reception and the night staff were laughing and talking outside the room all night, the heating didnt work and I had to beg for a duvet, which was useless, when I asked for a room change the reception said I needed to talk to someone else, no surprise that guy never made an appearance on our holiday, the breakfast was not nice at all, it was ruinbed in many ways, milk that was not cold, omellete will big salami pieces in, ridiculous, we ended up travelling around turkey to avoid staying here, its a JOKE ESTABLISHMENT!!!

I spent 5 nights at Blue Hills Hotel, which has an excellent location - very short walking distance to Hippodrome, famous Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. There are convenient store, restaurant cafe cross the hotel and a delicious Chinese restaurant around the corner. It takes about 20-minute walking distance to Spice Bazaar, Grand Bazaar and Galato Bridge as well as to Cemberlitas Hamami (ancient Turkish bath).

Hotel has a small lift but rooms are spacey for both 2 beds and single king bed (I have stayed in both), clean with firm bed and it provides the basic toiletries. Internet is free.

Buffet style breakfast served on the rooftop patio with both European and Turkish treats; from rooftop you have beautiful view, especially at sunrise and sunset, of Blue Mosque and Sea of Marmara.

Above all the merits, hotel has very friendly staffs, they are eager to assist at your request at anytime.
