“Wonderful place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

The hotel is in a great location in the old city with very comfortable rooms and a fantastic view from the terrace. However, the best part of the hotel is the owners. They are terrific people and really make you feel at home.

We had a wonderful stay everyone was so kind, and the value was wonderful. Clean, beautiful view on terrace. Breakfast was delicous, and location in old city was wonderful for sight seeing. Transportation from airport arranged by guest house was prompt and easy, definitely recommend doing that!

From the beginning until the end, the service was excellent. Guys were on time for picking us up at the airport.
Elif and her family were very charming and helpful, and speaking good english !
Concerning the rooms, nothing to discuss on it : Aircon, very good bathroom and bed. Cleaning service everyday.
The must : breakfast on the terrace with the view on the Bosphore !
Very good location : next to the most visited monuments but in a quiet area !
I would really recommend !!!!!!!

This a great place to stay if you want to go sightseeing in Istanbul. It takes about 5-10 minutes to walk to the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia, Basilica Cistern. Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar are all within easy walking distance.

Marmara is located on a quiet side street just around the corner from a busy street full of restaurants, so dinner is no problem.

The rooms are small and basic but clean and comfortable. The breakfast was one of the best I had whilst traveling around Turkey. A nice selection of food, freshly squeezed orange juice and beautiful views. The staff were helpful and friendly.

A very well located family run business. The location was excellent, close to many of Istanbul's popular tourist locations. The family were most helpful in organizing transfers to and from the Guesthouse and in providing information when requested. We were made to feel at home at all times and service always came with a smile. We were greeted with a beautiful fresh breakfast each morning, a great start to the day. The communication prior to traveling was excellent, very prompt and informative. We enjoyed our stay at the Guesthouse and recommend it to others who are traveling on a budget. Thank you to all who made our stay enjoyable.

The Marmara guest house is the perfect location to be based for a sight seeing holiday in Istanbul. You will be greeted by a friendly, welcoming Turkish family (husband and wife speak a little English) but their adult daughter speaks perfect English. The rooms are all individual, very clean, an adequate size and we had clean towels every day. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace where views are panoramic. You can see the Bosphorus, Sultanamhet and the Blue mosques and everyday life going on below. Breakfasts were a feast. Choose from cold meats, cheeses, eggs, bread, delicious fig and cherry jams, tomatoes, cucumber, delicious yogurt and fruit. You can relax at the end of the day or at any time on the roof top terrace where you can make yourself free coffee and tea as often as you like, or you can help yourself to a beer or soft drink from the fridge and just add it to your tab which you pay at end end of your stay. Finally if you can't live without your emails, they have free wi if - so you can enjoy a beer, relax and enjoy the view and keep in touch with life back home!

Room Tip: Two of our party had a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the quiet entrance road, the other...

When in Istanbul look no further than the Marmara Guesthouse for a warm, cosy, friendly home away from home. Run by the inestimable friendly and knowledgeable Elif within her home, the Marmara has beautiful clean rooms with lovely folk craft decor, excellent fresh breakfasts, and marvelous sea views from the tranquil vine-covered terrace. Elif is your most kind and helpful multi-lingual host of this peaceful refuge in a choice location within the bustly Sultanahmet district. This guesthouse has our top rating! Don't miss it!
