“Location Is Perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2012

We stayed in this lovely hotel in May 2012. The location if perfect in the 'old city' of Istanbul. The room was a bit too small and the air conditioning didn't work, but the location was everything. Step out the front door and no matter which direction you turn there is a restaurant. It is walking distance to the many great tourist highlights. We plan to return to Istanbul and the Hotel Centrum will be our choice of hotel.

The hotel is in a great location and we walked everywhere. It is very close to the Spice bazaar, the Galata bridge, and the tram line. The other direction takes you to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and the Cistern basillica. Being in such a central location you expect to hear all the hustle and bustle of the bars and restaurants from below, which stayed open quite late. We could even hear the call to prayer from one of the near by mosques which was nice. The room was a good size for the two of us with a tv, fridge, and en suite. It was clean and housekeeping were very efficient. The breakfast was ok, there was a selection of hot and cold food although we did get a bit bored with it by the end of the week. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel Centrum is a perfectly adequate hotel - nothing special but the location is excellent. It's on a pedestrian street, within easy walking distance of all the main places to visit - the Blue Mosque, Topkapi, the Bazaar and the Bosphorus. Although the hotel bar is rather dark, there is a lovely bright breakfast room on the top floor. The Ozler is a really friendly restaurant next door - ideal for lunch, dinner or a last drink on the way home - and there are other good restaurants along the street. All in all I'd stay here again - or if not here in one of the other hotels on the same street.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper avoid the rooms overlooking the Ozler bar - and be warned that they ar...

- Communication before the arrival: friendly at some stage and pushy at other stages to use transfer service without providing information (e.g. cost of transfer, waiting time, type of car, hotel internal or external service etc.).
- Transfer from airport to hotel: Clients have to wait for 20min to be picked up. Vehicle is not adequate (Renault Traffic to pick up one person??!!)
- Service at arrival: Reception requests transfer to be paid cash before check-in (30 Euro). Pick up a taxi and should not cost you more than 20 Euro!
- Service during stay: insufficient room service (low internet speed, constant internet connection error especially at night, absence of Ironing service, room cleaning and bed making is not up to standard, bathroom cleaning is not appropriate), hotel infrastructure needs further attention to acoustic isolation to internal and external noise and elevators are very small so if you have some luggage then consider deliver on two times!
- Breakfast service: Serving staff are nice and helpful but food selection is relatively limited.
- Communication during checking out: Reception staff do not take responsibility for service their offered clients (e.g. receipts for transfer, ironing service their offered through their external contacts).
- Location is Good but there are tens and perhaps hundereds of other hotels in the area, some of which have excellent service such as Rast Hotel (slightly expensive but very relaxing) or Hotel Spectra (if you have limited budget).

I'm now staying in this hotel this week. My organization got a group discount and my room costs EUR 75, normal price is EUR 90. Good - location. Average - service, room is small, basic setup, lower end (2 star in my humble view) breakfast. Poor - value for money, no shuttle service, hotel airport pickup is EUR 30 one way. It's cheaper to get a cab EUR 20. If I had a choice, I would have chosen something of better value.

The Centrum is situated in the old part of the city among restaurants and shops in a cobble-stoned street near the tram line. We were advised to walk alongside the tram line and it led us to the main tourist sights within minutes. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was included and it was adequate. The rooftop restaurant had a good view. The airconditioning worked almost too well and it was quite cold. Our room (triple configuration) was long and narrow and the beds took up most of the available space. The bathroom basin was small with insufficient space for personal belongings such as toiletries. But these were minor inconveniences and we would be happy to stay there again.

Whereas there are a lot of Istanbul's hotels advertised on the Internet as a great and luxury places to stay, which are totally different in reality (or they don't even exists), this hotel is really great surprise when you take in account money you should pay for it.

Hotel is clean and comfortable, supported with politely staff ready to help and provide you with useful advises and information. You shouldn't expect some special view from rooms, but the restaurant on the roof gives you a beautiful view on the entire Istanbul. Food is also great (with regard to breakfast, cause I paid only for B/B)

There is only one PC in the hotel (this is disadventages), with not to fast internet connections, so you often have to wait for your turn to use it.

Location is the best thing about this hotel. It is placed in the Sirkeci district, very close to the Aya Sofia, Topkapi Palace, Kapali market (5 minutes walking distance), tram station (lines to to: Taxim-Ortakoy cami-Fenerbahce and so on, or lines to Sultanahmet-Topkapi-Kapali-metro). Hotel is also very close to train stations. The location is in the old district of Istanbul, so you have to be careful and to take account on the tourist hunters. Of course, you shouldnt be afraid of it, because everywhere in the old part of city, there is a lot of tourist as well as lot of people selling some things, asking for tip etc.

Hotel has couple of facilities. There are a sauna, turkey bath, massage and a small pool devoted to sauna and turkey bath program. It doesnt looks modern and exclusive but you should visit.

Environment and appearance of the hotel are not promising anything special. Street where the hotel is placed looks dark and narrow, but its safe.

Nevertheless, I like this hotel. If I paid it more than I did, probably I wouldnt be to much satisfied. From this point of view, it is not anything spectacular but good for that money.
