We were just one night at the Niles, but we appreciated their genuine personal interest in us and our situation. One of our bags failed to arrive at the airport on our flight, and we needed it to begin a cruise the next day. Cemil greeted us warmly at the front desk and promised to call the baggage office after the final flight of the day. The next morning, we asked at the desk before breakfast, but nothing had turned up. While we were eating breakfast, Sebnem (the daytime woman at the front desk) found us in the terrace and said our bag was on its way. Two more status reports were given (based on phone conversations with the delivery service) and our bag arrived just in time for us to head for the cruise terminal. Meanwhile Murat the bartender/porter took a friendly interest in our cruise destinations and our missing bag. He carried our bags one block to a taxi--necessary because a traffic jam had blocked the street in front of the hotel.
As for the room, it was a bit spartan, but very clean and the air conditioning worked. For the price, we thought it was quite decent. Unless one wants to spend a lot of time at the Grand Bazaar, the neighborhood has little to offer the tourist, but the tram line is very close and we had no trouble getting taxis.
Others have commented that the hotel is hard to find. We took the precaution of printing up a Google map (maps on the hotel's website were not too clear) and we had no trouble with taxis finding the hotel. We didn't find the local restaurant scene very attractive, but the hotel will order simple meals from next door to be brought up to the roof terrace. For more ambitious meals, one should go to the main tourist centers.
Although I'm not sure we would recommend the Niles as a base for a long-term stay, it served our purpose well at a reasonable price. The human warmth of its staff was the most memorable element in rating it excellent.
