“A gem in the city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

Hotel Niles is a little gem, tucked into the hustle bustle of the city. From the moment you walk in the door you are greeted and treated to the most incredible service. Apple tea and Turkish delight await you as you register for your room, then the friendliest bellboy takes you to your room.
As two friends on vacation (without our husbands...gasp!;) we enjoyed the security of the hotel and the incredible views from the charming roof top deck.
Breakfast was a treat every morning with dried fruits, eggs, yogurt, cereals, breads, cheeses, etc. It was a lovely way to start the day, watching the birds and the busy Bosphorus port in the distance.
Our room, though small has everything we needed...along with the most affordable mini bar on the planet! They also offer unique services - like collecting food from various restaurants in the area and bringing them back for you, so you can enjoy the food on their beautiful roof top.
I would recommend their car pick up service from the airport as well. Ataturk airport is full on, so as a single female travelling, upon arrival it is nice to see a friendly face and know you will be taken to the correct hotel with no issues.
The location was also fab - right next to the tram (which is very modern and so easy to take around the city) and a short walk from Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia.

Room Tip: If you can, upgrade from the small rooms...it felt a little like a dorm for us two ladies. And be pr...

This was our first trip to Istanbul but, when we left, we felt as though we had been among friends. Smart, courteous, efficient and very knowledgeable friends, for whom nothing was too much trouble, whether it was arranging our museum passes in advance, popping to the supermarket to buy English-style crisps to go with our evening beers, or bringing us sandwiches and coffee at 5 a.m. before our early flight home. The beds were incredibly comfortable, there were excellent quality linens and towels (changed daily), a generous supply of nice toiletries, the double glazing worked well to eliminate the 5.30am prayer call (which was deafening from the street), the aircon worked a treat, we had plenty of shelf space, a fridge and a small safe. Down in the lobby, a water cooler, tasty free snacks and a supply of umbrellas for those rare stormy days. Everything was spotlessly clean, thoughtfully arranged and well maintained. A generous breakfast buffet is included and is enjoyed on the airy roof terrace with views of dozens of ships waiting to enter the Bosphorus Strait. In terms of location, Hotel Niles could not be better, being only a couple of minutes walk from the Grand Bazaar and only 10-15 minutes from Topkapi Palace, Ayia Sofia, Blue Mosque etc. as well as a vast array of restaurants. In short, this hotel is an absolute gem. We will defintely be back!

Room Tip: If you keep your window shut and use the aircon, even the deafening 5.30am prayer call won't bot...

My wife and I are well travelled. We take care in selecting a hotel that provides good value, unique decor and captures the feeling of "living in Istanbul". The hotel Niles does all of this, with all staff supporting the concept of trying to give guests a good experience. We we fortunate to have the room with the small balcony. just perfect to be able to sit outdoors and observe the surrounding neighbourhood. It is the old part of Istanbul, where else to stay ? Casual dining or socializing on the roof balcony again captures the delight of the old city...Fellow guests all feel superior, wow what have we found in this great hotel. We were in Istanbul last in 1961, driving a Beetle car to India. It is a wonderful city, better now than it has ever been. Ivan and Beth Hodge

While our room was very basic the hotel overall was fabulous. The roof top patio and breakfast were picture perfect and the service and special touches were amazing. I would upgrade rooms next time but would definitely stay here again. The location is two blocks from the tram and walking distance to the bazaar, spice market, blue mosque, etc. great for exploring the city!

I cannot speak highly enough about the Hotel Niles in Istanbul. Wonderful friendly staff, beautiful old building with authentic decorations. Amazing, generous buffet breakfast on beautiful rooftop terrace with fabulous views over the Bosporus. Easy access to metro and all the attractions of the Sultanahmet District, including Grand Bazaar and Blue Mosque. Great value for money 10/10

The staff at Hotel Niles went above any beyond to make sure our stay was fantastic. Right from arriving late at night to a cup of turkish tea, to making sure we had everything we needed, they were brilliant.

The hotel is within walking distance of main attractions, and around 30 seconds from a tram stop if you don't want to walk.

The room we had was fairly small and a bit on the basic side, and the shower room was very small, but the public spaces were so lovely that it didn't matter. The roof terrace is open 24hours and beers are cheap.

The breakfast buffet has a really good selection of cereals, toasts, baking, hot food etc. The watermelon is especially good.

Highly recommended for a mid range trip.

What is special about Hotel Niles is its team of dedicated staff who do everything they can to make your stay in Istanbul a wonderful experience. In addition to being incredibly helpful when it came to dealing with a medical emergency, they were always on hand to provide a warm welcome and give advice. We stayed in a standard room which, although it had no frills, was very clean and linen was changed every day – exceptionally good value for a hotel that was located near to the city's main sights. The rooftop terrace, where healthy Turkish breakfasts were served, was an added bonus.
