“A perfectly located likeable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Megara Palace Hotel is located perfectly in the old city centre. The hotel street is quiet. However plenty of the main attractions and nice restaurants are nearby and easily available by foot.

Hotel rooms are quite small as they typically are in hotels renovated in old apartment buildings. The ambience is sympathetic.

The hotel restaurant is located on the top terasse. The view over other buildings and over the sea is dazzling.

Hotel personal service was very kind.

We recommend Megara Palace Hotel.

This was my first trip to Istanbul and upon arrival we received nothing but excellent service. Mehmet and the rest of the staff were friendly, helped us arrange day trips etc. The hotel is in an excellent location - near to all the top sights. Breakfast was lovely. Definitely will return !!

Wonderful hotel for intelligent people - truly extraordinary, the location and services are amazing for this price. The staff are always kindly ready to help with any problem (administrator Mekhmet, especially). The hotel's owner is the well-known painter in Turkey, you can see his works on the walls around and buy some in the shop nearly located. I enthusiastically recommend Megara Palace to everybody who really wants to feel something special about this great city walking around old places or looking at Marmara see on evenings from your balcony. Good luck! Professor John Chkareuli (Georgia)

Room Tip: Rooms at the top floor are best

I was given a room with a single twin bed, no window - only an opening under outside stairs. No shower curtain, dirty bathroom, hardly any room to maneuver in the room. Not recommended.! I am attaching photos for review. The location is great I must say. If you make sure you get what you pay for, it may be well worth it.

I was pleased to stay at this hotel. It is 850 ft from the Hagia Sofia, an excellent spot! The breakfast was nice & tasty, with good hours. The staff were very friendly. They gladly took bags to the room. They were helpful and enjoyed conversation. The rooms were small but adequate. The restaurant has an excellent view nd live entertainment. The A/C worked and kept the room very cool

Room Tip: Pick a room on the lower floors. There's no lift!

We spend only one night in Istanbul, and were happy about location of this ok hotel.
Reception is friendly, rooms are bit small and there were no duvet on bed. Also no lift (that was very good for me). Breakfast is served on roof where you can see sea, but not not big mosques. Breakfast is also not very good one. Fruits and some sort of bread with average coffee and tea. Fillings for bread are very basic. Shower is good and hole place is very clean so value is still good.
Tourist bars just around corner, sea is hundred meters away but still hotel is on almost silent spot. Big mosques are just few hundred meter walk away.

This hotel was in a great location only just around the corner literally from Agia Sophia and The Blue Mosque near the Topkapi Palace wall. It was just on the outskirts of the old town and so a little bit quieter than right in the thick of it all. There was a small mosque just outside our window but the double glazing meant we didn't hear a thing when the call to prayer happened at 4.30am.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and the owner of the hotel introduced himself and chatted and welcomed us as well. The rooftop restaurant was a great place for breakfast, dinner or drinks and you could look over the Bosphorus and see all the boats coming and going.
Breakfast was nice with a variety of different things to choose from. Cereal, eggs, yoghurt, fruit and nuts, olives, cheese, filter coffee and tea. The meats were to be avoided however consisting of very processed sausages and cold meat (unless you're into that).

There is no elevator so those that don't like stairs or those with health issues might want to give this hotel a miss. There is also no direct views of the major sites, just glimpses from the rooftop, but this is reflected in the price. The location to everything is great, we were happy not to peer our the window at it all and save a few dollars but still be in a great location when we wanted to see the sights.
