This is a charming and welcoming hotel set in a quiet residential area on the edge of the Sultanahmet tourist district. A particular highlight was the friendly and courteous staff. The hotel takes its name from the pretty little courtyard garden which contains the restaurant serving good basic Turkish and European food. Because we had our baby with us, we ate at the hotel every night, and eventually found that the menu was a bit limited, although the staff were happy to order in food from a nearby restaurant.
The hotel is situated about ten brisk minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome. I would also recommend a quick visit to the nearby Kuchuk Aya Sophia mosque just down the road.
Our clean airy room was perfectly large enough for the comfortable double bed and our baby's cot. The plumbing in the bathroom all worked, and the shower produced plenty of hot water.
Sadly my father fell ill in France while we were staying, and so we had to curtail our holiday and return home at short notice. Despite the fact that we had booked for several more days and would have happily paid for one or two more nights, the sympathetic manager would not hear of us even paying for the night on which we left.
All in all we thought that the Garden Hotel represented good value for money and was a good base from which to explore Istanbul with a family. When we return, we hope to stay there again.
