We had a brilliant at the stone Hotel in August 2008. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help. The room was spotlessly cleaned everyday and had good facilities. The breakfast was served in a lovely garden with a water feature (nice touch). The best part was the terrace at the top which gave lovely views of the sea, old Roman column and the beautiful Sokullu Mosque. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to others as it is good value for money. Thank you all at the Stone Hotel for our lovely stay.

Had a wonderful stay at the Stone Hotel. The breakfast was great, the staff extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgable, and although a little pricey, well worth it!

The view out to the Marmara from the terrace upstairs is great, and the garden / courtyard out back is a wonderful place not only for breakfast, but also to relax and chill out after a days sightseeing.

Location is great - far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main Sultanahmet area, yet within a matter of minutes (up a small-ish hill) you can be at the hippodrome (where the Blue Mosque is!). Also its only a 7 minutes walk of the nearest tram station - Sultanahmet (definitely worth using more than other means of transport). The only drawback is that it is right next to a mosque (i.e. very early and very loud calls to prayer)!

Overall, a very enjoyable stay, the rooms are clean and very well maintained (although we did have a small leak in the shower) and rooms 1 and 2 on the 3rd and 4th floor are highly recommended for great sea views!

Would highly recommend this hotel if you're staying in Istanbul.

  • Liked — Friendly, Safe, Location
  • Disliked — The fact that you could hear the local Mosque's call to prayer early in the morning - although this is the case in most hotels anyway!

The Stone hotel is an interesting mix. Good things - reasonable breakfast, open air courtyard for breakfast, large room, roof top terrace with good views, very friendly and knowledgable staff, very good position, very good value. Not so good things - rooms a little run down, a glass window into the toilet area, jacuzi in the middle of the room but water spasmodic and cold, awful piped music at breakfast (particularly awful if you had too much raki the night before) the call to prayers being very close with the mosque next door.

But the best thing - service with drinks to the roof top terrace, drinking raki and smoking a nargilah under the stars.

  • Liked — Drinks at night on the terrace
  • Disliked — The jacuzi that didn't work and piped music

We have just returned from a five-night stay at the Stone Hotel, a gem of a hotel situated in the old quarter and a wonderful haven from the hustle and bustle of the bazaars and city life. The hotel's charming and atmopsheric courtyard garden was so welcoming after a day's sightseeing. Selim and his fellow staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel is ideally situated for all the major sights and we would definitely recommend it to everyone looking for a peaceful location, real atmosphere and a friendly family feel to their accommodation. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and we were lucky enough to have a sea view. The top floor terrace is another lovely location, particularly late at night for that last drink. We always prefer small, personal hotels to the big chains and if you feel the same, then thiis has to be highly recommended.

  • Liked — Location, courtyard garden, friendly and helpful staff
  • Disliked — We liked everything about it

Certainly no problems with overbooking for me. I arrived (very tired) just before midnight and was immediately checked in by friendly, helpful staff.

The room was average size, but well furnished, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very modern and spotlessly clean.

Highly recommended.

The location is great (very close to the Blue Mosque), but older or disabled travellers should be aware that it is on a steep hill.
