“Great Service and Location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

The location is perfect and you do not need a car to access food, historic sites like the Galata Tower which is right outside the door and many shops. One thing I learned is that most shops are specialized; think bakery, cheese mongering and coffe shops, etc all in their own little 20x20 shop. My wife and I enjoyed the breakfast and the view from the roof was breath taking. In addition, most people speak some english in this area so it was much more enjoyable to communicate with them. If you get a chance, stop in at the wine and cheese shop on the ground floor. It was fabulous.

A Turkish chain with style, you will not be disappointed on service and quality. The location is very good if you do not have car (you will not need one). You can eat on any of the restaurants around, buy in the supermarket 100 mts away, walk to the metro, walk to the ferry, or walk to the Sultanahmet. The view from the restaurant for breakfast it is superb. Breakfast starts early 6:30 so dawn its magical. Taxi to the hotel from Ataturk Airport is 25 minutes and 50 TL.

Room Tip: Looks for upper floors, a night hot spot makes it too noisy and rooms are not well insulated. rooms...

The hotel is in a great, not overly-touristy neighborhood full of interesting restaurants. Walkable to both Taksim and Sultanahmet (with a short but steep uphill walk on the way back). The free breakfast is not great but not bad; the stunning panoramic view from the restaurant makes up for any weakness in the food. We found the front desk staff to be friendly and helpful. The decor is old-fashioned in an interesting way. The beds are comfortable and have good pillows.

On the downside, they could use a new housekeeping manager. Our first room smelled like a mixture of armpit and sewage. (You'll also experience this smell in the elevator.) And the shower clearly hadn't been cleaned since there was hair on the floor as well as mold (see photo). We asked to at least have the shower cleaned and were told it would be done that day, however when we returned later we were told the housekeepers had left and would have to clean the shower "tomorrow". When asked, the front desk clerk (to her credit) agreed to give us a different room. The second room did smell better and the shower was mold-free, though there was still some hair and soap scum in the shower and the previous guests' trash hadn't been emptied. Good enough, we decided. Also the air conditioning didn't work, which was a problem since the street noise makes sleep difficult with the window open. It got really stuffy and hot at night.

Historic building, beautifully decorated spacious rooms. Each room is different. You can easily see the careful touch of a woman in decoration. Just next to the Tower. It is as if you can touch the Tower from your window. The best jazz bar in Istanbul is next door. No place for parking. Breakfast roof is unbelievable! Must visit.

Pick up at airport arranged via hotel worked well. We were delayed and they were still there to pick up.
Hotel is in an excellent location.
Tours and trips can be easily booked through reception. Due to narrow roads you will have to walk down hill to meet the coach, someone from the hotel will walk you down there if your not sure where to go, this worked well. Organised trips have pre bought tickets so saves long queues.
Breakfast was interesting, Turkish, other dishes can be ordered if not to your fancy, very good coffee.
View is stunning from rooftop restaurant. Didn't eat there in evenings, didn't seem a very busy restaurant either. Had sundowner on terrace bar area.
Restaurants in the square serve local food and are very good. Lovely to sit, eat amongst locals and watch the happenings in the square by the tower and relax after a long day sightseeing.
Hotel has character, but relies a lot on its location for business.
All staff were helpful and spoke English. The Gelata tower is right next door. Small store on corner good for bottled water etc.
Ask about the short train ride up the hill, then it's a short walk down hill back to the hotel. Saves a long uphill walk at the end of a long day on your feet. Cross the bridge from near the Spice Market and look for a 'Tunnel' sign.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the side or back of hotel if you want to be quiet. The square does get busy but not t...

Overall he hotel is ok.
It's a nice old building and some could appreciate the charme of the rooms. But the carpet needs to be replaced and the room didn't feel that clean. Moreover, it's quite noisy, day and night.
The location though is good, close to everything but out of the busy streets. And the breakfast location is a pretty amaziamazing rooftop.

Terrific location on the European side of Istanbul. You walk out the front door directly by the Galata Tower and a 10 min walk to Istiklal Avenue--the walking and shopping street. Service was good, the rooms clean and the breakfast OK. Dinner was expensive. However, it has a great view from the top floor, especially at night. All-in-all a very good experience.
