“A bridge to the past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2012

St. Anthony Church is a contemporary vestige of the Italian presence in that part of Istanbul on the European side above the Golden Horn. The Franciscan Order has been in the area for centuries and currently maintains a quaint European style church that is open to all. Foreigners and Turks alike can be found visiting almost any time of day. And it's in the middle of Istiklal Street.

“Beautiful church in a city full of beautiful mosques”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2012

This is a beautiful Church which provides an oasis of calm just off the very busy Istiklal Cadesi. It is the largest Catholic Church in the city with beautiful red brick exterior with ornately carved circular windows. Outside the doors stands a statue of Pope John XXIII on the right side and on the left side a modern adaption of the Crucification. Inside the church on the right hand side of the main altar in the alcove is a carving of Christ laid out after his crucification it is an incredibly moving piece. On leaving the church you get a surprise as the exit is truly lovely with a covered corridor linking two buildings each with 3 ornate balconies.

“Beautiful nativity scene in this wonderful church”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

we visited on christmas eve and lit candles for our loved ones. it was so busy but there was a great sense of calm and wellbeing .
My daughter bought a beautiful rosary and there were many reasonably priced gifts to be had, with all monies going to the upkeep of this beautiful church.
There was a special service at 21.00, which was the nativity service.
This is a must see place on the list for travellers to Istanbul.
We visit it every time we come here.

“Divine...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2011

In the crowds of Istiklal Street, you will find the peace in the garden of St. Paul. Guests who visits Istanbul can join the mass everyday and church it self is very calm...
