“Friendly, clean, comfortable and accommodating”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2010

I believe that this is a wonderful hotel for both a short or an extended stay in Istanbul. The location cannot be beat if you are intent upon ferreting out all the must-see sights. You are within a quick walk of Topkapi, Ayasofya, the Cistern, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, the Mosaic Museum, the Palace of Bucoleon, the Sublime Porte, et al.
All the staff at the Peninsula were wonderful during our two week stay. Without exception, they went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, and were very helpful in solving any problems that came up while visiting this extraordinary city
I would suggest earplugs if you are a light sleeper, as no matter where you stay you will hear the call to prayer five times a day---but this is anywhere in the City, double glazing aside. The hotel itself was perfectly quiet, and we did not hear our neighbours.
The only suggestion I would have for this engaging establishment is to somehow find a way to have a well-lit public room, so those of us who cannot sleep in the wee hours (and are too boorish to pray) can sit comfortably somewhere and immerse ourselves in in a book by Yasar Kemal , Pamuk, Rahmi or Emre.
We had a perfect holiday, other than it being a week too short!

Thank you very much for all your kind appraisal about us.İt is very nice to know that you enjoyed your stay here.We would really love to get chance to show you this hospitality again in the future. By the way, We took your advise and we are now about to make a plan for a public room that you can take a sit to have rest and enjoy your time reading a book.

We liked the hotel very much. I booked our room by email and they were very prompt with their responses to my emailed requests. When we arrived we were asked wether we had wanted a twin room or a double room. We preferred a twin room but they didn't have any that night, and apparently i had not specified it in my email to them. They moved us to a larger twin room the next day, and did not charge us extra for the larger room. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The small rooms are very small, but they are clean and comfortable. Breakfast was at the sister hotel across the road. It was a basic breakfast but still delicious. We opted for the airport transfers to and from the hotel, and the driver was also very friendly and informative, despite speaking very little English. The hotel is also very conveniently located near the main sights in Sultanhamet. I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel's location in Sultanahmet could hardly be better. The staff is friendly. It offers a very good value, though some small aspects of the facilities could be improved.

My wife and I were staying in Istanbul as a layover before returning home after a long trip in Egypt. We were offered a airport pickup for 15 Eruo--which I'm glad we took as it is quite far from the hotel. When we arrived, the guy at the front desk immediately checked us in, and gave us a map of Sultanemeht (spell check?). The next morning we were stunned by the breakfast that they offer. It might seem like a typical breakfast, but everything is homemade, and amazing! Plus the guy who was serving the breakfast was extremely accommodating, and bent over backwards to make sure we were fed well (he cooked it all by himself!). Needless to say, within one day we felt like we were at home. We had everything we needed and more.
I think the one person who stood out the most was a guy named, Nedjet. He always had a smile on his face, was completely laid back, and willing to do anything to make us feel safe in secure. When we left to catch our flight home, my wife forgot her passport at the hotel. I panicked and called the hotel right after being dropped of by the pickup/drop off service. I reached Nedjet who said in a very calm voice, "don't worry, stay right where you are, and the driver will be right back to drop off another guest. He will bring the passport with him in less than an hour.". When I offered him any amount of money out of extreme gratitude he said it was his pleasure and that it wasn't necessary! Sure enough, the driver returned in about 40 minutes with my wife's passport in tow, and we made our flight!!
I have read some reviews here, and I respect the various opinions. However, I think that people are people, and as such they are entitled to have "off-days". If you stick around for a little while, you might just be surprised and experience what we experienced.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to try the Yogurt...it's homemade and the best thing I've ever taste. Be sure to pet the resident cat, Bonjyek as well!!!
Thanks, Nedjet!

I stayed at both the Peninsula Hotel and the Grand Peninsula Hotel during the course of my trip. Both hotels are well located, clean, and have a very warm and inviting atmosphere. Most importantly, the staff is outstanding at both locations. They are friendly, accommodating, and show a genuine concern for the satisfaction of their clients. I found them to be extremely knowledgeable and honest on travel within Istanbul and was delighted at all of their recommends. Whether I needed travel advice or help locating my lost travel companion, the staff was more than willing to donate their time. When I return to Istanbul I will be staying here.

I also was a victim of the Lonely planet review, but i guess that's not the hotel owners fault.
We arrived very late, but the chap on the desk was quite pleasant for 1am. The room was basic, but the bed was comfortable.
We did get the yoghurt and home made jams which were the highlight of the breakfast.
If you are after somewhere comfortable to base yourself then this is a pretty good bet. I ended up being a bigger fan of Beyaglou (better restaurants, bars, cafe's) than Sultahnamet, so that perhaps is the bigger question of where to stay....

It's location to the main tourist sightseeing haunts can't be questioned however.

We stayed in the Peninsula for four nights and were very happy with our experience. It was second time for us in Peninsula and it was realy nice too.It is located in a good area with lots of food options nearby, and even a view of the Blue Mosque and Sea of Marmara from the rooftop. Staff was always friendly, rooms were clean and it was quite affordable. What more can you want?
