“Fantastic location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2008

Located right by the Blue Mosque, Toakpi Palace and Aya Sofia. Staff are friendly but have a habit of quoting all prices in euro (when I was here they were supposed to be working with the new turkish lira), they also have a constant stream of conversations from their front door (which was above my room) mainly with the Handehan hotel opposite. I had requested a quiet room but it's not a very quiet hotel - i actually had a room with an ajoining door to the next door room. There are no TVs in the rooms or kettle. The hotel is fresh and homey. The breakfast is good and the upper terrace has amazing views over the Bosphorous, Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia.

  • Liked — The roof terrace
  • Disliked — If I have to say something - not that quiet, but still a brilliant place

This hotel is in Sultanahmet, about 3 mins walk from Aya Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and the tram line. It's about 10 mins walk to Topkapi Palace, the archeological museum complex and the Grand Bazaar. Who could ask for a better location?!
The single room I had was a bit small but it was clean and comfortable. I then booked to stay a few more days when I came back from a tour, and was in a bigger room. Huseyin, the owner, is a real sweety. He has good English, is really helpful and has lots of advice about the attractions in Istanbul.
Breakfast is on the roof (either inside or outside) and the breakfast waiter is also really sweet. His English isn't so good but that doesn't stop him being quite partial to talking about deep philosophical issues to anyone who has an interest in the subject.
Huseyin also owns Hotel Hanedan across the road so if Peninsula is booked out, try there.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend Hotel Peninsula.

Stayed two nights in a double room. Great location. Breakfast was very good and had nice variety. Room was very clean. Always someone at the desk and they were friendly. Very good price. Arranged pickup from hotel as promised. Will stay there again.

Found this on trip adviser and i have to say we were very please with this hotel, tradational turkish breakfast which my husband loved being turkish. Set in the heart of the touristical area. Rooms were good size and were very clean which were serviced every day, staff were polite and friendly , my only moan was there was no kettle in the room. But i would go back again very good value for money.

The Hotel Peninsula was the perfect place and a rare find! And we found it on Trip Advisor!

The hotel arranged my pick up from the airport for a great rate and even allowed my friend who was arriving early (at 7:30 am) to check-in upon arrival. Although my flight was delayed 5 hours, the driver waited in the airport the entire time and greeted me with a smile.

When I arrived at the hotel, Huseyin, the owner, gave me a warm welcome and even provided us with a restaurant recommendation (which turned out to be fabulous!). He made sure we woke up at 4:30 am the next morning and sat with us while we waited for our ride back to the airport to head out to Cappadocia. The service truly was remarkable!

The rooms were clean and the breakfast room was quaint. Unfortunately I did not have time to enjoy their breakfast because we had to leave so early. The only thing the may turn some off is the call to prayer at 5 am. But there is always the street side of the hotel where you supposedly can't hear it.

I would absolutely stay at this hotel again and highly recommend it.

  • Liked — The people and the service
  • Disliked — The fact that we were only there 1 night :)
