“CAN NOT be a 4 star hotel. ”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

On my third visit to istanbul, i chose this hotel unfortunatly. I read the reviews and decided to take it, but these reviews must be quit old because this hotel is amonge the worst in istanbul.
To be fair, the staf were actually very friendly and helpful.
The service: most of them understand english. Although, one of the nights the AC stopped working, we complained to the reception and others from other rooms did as well, and we argued with them for quite sometime until they fixed it. Otherwise they wanted us to wait till morning, but this is impossible to tolerate in the steam wether of istanbul.

The breakfast: be there on time, cause things will run out quite fast!!! It is from 7-10.. around 9 o'clock you cann't find bread! Comparing to other hotels that have only 3 stars.. this hotel have actually a poor breakfast. One morning, the staf started removing the cutlries from the dishes already 20 minuts to 10.. and people started looking into eachother's faces; it wasn't a polite behaiviour at all.

The cleaning: SO baaaaad!!! We have complained to the reception at least 3 times, but it was useless. Two days of our stay we rejected the cleaners because they didn't do that much so we cleaned up our selves. And one day we watched them how they cleaned up, OMG!! Our used cups were cleaned up under the tap of the bathroom by hand instead of bringing new ones. The floor was dusty allllll the time, they never cleaned the tables and the flats, and forget to empty the garbage, big pieces of dusts were found in the corners always. One of the switch plugs was sticking out of the wall.. it seemed dangeoures.. we didn't come closer to it.

The location: very close to the yenikapi metro station that leads to taksim.. and close to the aksaray tramvay station, but the area is not for families; there were hookers all over the area, but it won't make any difference for people who are comfortable with this situation. The location is not bad, the hotel is not the best, too pricy for these conditions!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

We stayed here in June 2014 for 3 nights (01-04Jun). We had booked this hotel through our travel agents in India and also checked up on it on TA as well, but some of the realities were slightly different on ground.
Location wise, its just a couple of minutes from the Yanikapi metro station, and about 10 minutes from Aksaray TRAM (NOT METRO) stop. We did not know this and got off at Aksaray metro station and then took a expensive taxi ride. This could have been avoided had we just taken a tram from Aksaray metro station to Aksaray tram stop, or taken the tram all the way to Sirkeci and then taken a metro to Yanikapi. Otherwise, this hotel is located in a reasonably central area but not in Sultanahmet and one does need public transport or taxi to travel to the the old city, where all the sights are located. Ditto for Taksim.
The reception was ok, and they initially gave us a room which overlooked a side street with some other house's balcony visible right across the window. We requested for a change and they promptly gave us another room towards the front in the first floor, but on entering the room we realized that the AC and the electronic safe were not working. This problem did not get resolved for almost 48 hours and finally we were shifted to another room but only after being slightly firm. None of the people on duty were willing to take any responsibility and we were told more than once that nothing could be done as they are just working there and we should speak to the manager/owner! We had a frustrating conversation with a lady clerk at the reception (I forget her name but it starts with G), when she neither solved our problem nor would let us speak to the manager, saying it was too late! It was only after i mentioned TripAdvisor that she changed our room!!! Thx TA :-)
The WiFi was iffy as one has to keep logging in every time one enters the hotel and at times even on changing the floors! They also charge for the internet connection which is kept at the lobby, which is generally not done. The good thing is that they give one bottle of water per person in the room on arrival, however the funny thing is that they give only one bottle irrespective of the number of days that u stay. In countries where tap water is non drinkable, the normal practice is that one bottle is given per guest per day. The breakfast spread was decent but since none of the available staff could speak English and the layout did not have any kind of name of the items laid out, we did not know what was beef (that we don't eat) and what was not. However, very strangely, they did not have Turkish coffee in the buffet but had it as an add on for which they charge extra.
The front office staff were evidently not very clued up about the various sights of the city and how can one reach them. Either that, or they were only interested in pushing packages and trips which had a tie up with the hotel.
Will i ever stay here again if i visit Istanbul..I doubt it!
In spite of everything, i still give 3 stars to the hotel only because of the manager, Mrs Aslihon, cause when we did manage to meet her, and explained our hiccups to her, she was extremely apologetic about the conduct of her staff. She also arranged for a complimentary drop to the airport as a compensation for our ordeal without us asking for it and i found that an honourable thing to do.

Room Tip: Check if the AC, telephone and the safe is working in the room when u check in!

Dear Guest ;

First of all we are really thankful about your review it helps to know our missing sides.

Our hotel is really strict about to make our client happy we always try to do whatever they want and we will speak to department manager to make our mistakes correct.

I can see your point but however there are a few misunderstanding.

You complained about extra of charge for Turkish coffee Dear Sir or Madam. You had a cattle tray in your room. There are coffee, tea, andmany kind of fruit tea boxes. They are free of charge and also you have free tea, coffee and many kind of drinking at your breakfast but Turkish coffee and your special order of course are extra not only at our hotel all of the world. It is same rule and also you had a minibar at your room we provided water but of course. It is extra actually we dosen't have to give free water but for complimantary. We are giving one bottle of water free of charge for first day to all customer.

We apologize for our mistakes and thank your for your advise again.

It was our first visit to Istanbul. This hotel was proposed by our tour agency.
The first welcome by hotel receptionist was not too welcome (of course to my opinion). Perhaps she had got a problem from somewhere.
Breakfast was so so. We had a much better one from a small hotel in Urgup.

We stayed here for 4 nights and would recommend it. The location is very convenient - 5 minute stroll to the tram which then stops at all the major sights (buy the Istanbulkart). The metro is also nearby, and a taxi rank. It costs about €17 to the airport. There is also a small shop opposite selling water, snacks, etc. The area is generally lively with a good few shops.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room had two single beds and decent storage and plugs. The bathroom was standard, with a good shower and plenty of towels and toiletries. Everything was very clean. Our room's window overlooked a roofer corridor/courtyard so no views, but there was a/c and we were out during the day anyhow. We found it quiet and the beds were very comfortable so no issues on sleep quality. We never did get a kettle for the room which was annoying, but then we never chased up on it. A mini-fridge to store water was appreciated.

Breakfast was tasty and filling. Granted, it was nothing too exciting but there was plenty of breads/cakes and cereal, together with tea/coffee and various juices. There were some unusual bits in the salad/cold meat bar and the hot food, but you'll always find that abroad - if you don't like it, skip it! We never used the restaurant or bar - I think you'd do better eating out, and there were plenty of options nearby. The fitness centre was a bit of a disappointment as you had to pay to use all facilities but the very small pool. We opted to go to a hammam instead!

Overall, we liked this hotel and found it very good value and a good base for our time in Istanbul.

The service is excellent, was amazed by Mr. Erol Akti for being so dedicated with his work, very active for any help he possibly could, so staff like him is a good example to make the business (hotel) prosper.

The hotel was located perfectly between the metro station and the marmara. The metro has one tram which takes you to the Grand Bazaar and then into Sultanahmet. The tram stops at a number of locations worth visiting. The marmara is a subway which takes you from the europe side to the asia side through the sea. There is a taxi rank just outside perfect for getting to the airport in the night.

We stayed 5 days and the hotel staff were lovely throughout our stay. The cleaner on our floor did an immaculate job of cleaning the room while we were out, making sure we had enough towels and soaps and clean bedding. We got locked out of our room at one point and he saved us from going all the way down by helping us get back in. Erol was a lovely person who helped organise our taxi told us the maximum price to pay. He was very helpful with our stay. The wifi was good and found all over the hotel.

We had a double room with 2 single beds which had enough room for the two of us with a small but clean and organised bathroom. Everything was in working condition. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning was easy to work. We were also given slippers which came in handy on the marble bathroom floor. The room had blackout curtains which did a good job of keeping the sunlight out. As a women I do recommend taking your own hair dryer as the one in the bathroom isn't particularly great. The room has plenty of of plugs for phone chargers and other things and there is one perfectly located next to the bed. Although there was a little noise at night, it wasn't too loud that its not possible to sleep. Istanbul is a very busy city so wherever you stay there is bound to noise.

There was a variety of food and drinks for breakfast and plenty of traditional Turkish food. The bread was lovely, soft and fresh, the juices cold and the the coffee hot. Its served between 7-10 perfect for the early and the late starts.

Really good value for money and no major problems. The hotel is perfect for short city breaks and for seeing all the amazing sites. Would definitely recommend it to others.
