Owner description: Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamam; The elegant authentic surroundings of this Turkish bath, magnificent creation of Mimar Sinan, transcends the timeless barriers between old and new… Giving you an escape from the hustle and bustle of beautiful Istanbul City.Mimar Sinan the legendary Architect of that period was commissioned by “Kilic Ali Pasa” to build the Hamam to withstand the ravages of the sea and time. The large light, Magnificent Dome above the Camegah (relaxation area) is 14 meters across and 17 meters high one of the largest single domes built by Sinan. The features of the Kulhan Chimney/exhaust, the leaded domes and the glass elephant eyes along with brick by brick reappointing, original Kurnas and some carved stone and marble slabs found during excavation have been retained and used within the premises adding to its extreme historical beauty and interest. The Hamam Ritual is an ancient one, the materials used have not significantly changed and used to restore energy and vitality to the body by reducing the toxins, and allowing the skin to breathe again

“Wow! What a great experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

Just went to this hammam. I had checked out Cemberlitas, one that everyone seems to rave about, but it was quite crowded.

Kilic Ali Pasa Hamami was a fantastic experience. The staff were kind and helpful, the hamam was spotlessly clean, and the atmosphere was one of relaxation.

A couple of things I wish I'd had with me: face cream and a comb or brush. Hairdryers and body lotion are provided.

Very easy to get to - right next to the Tophane tran stop.

“Great first-time hamam experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

As first-time hamam users we were honestly unsure of what to expect, but the gracious staff made our time there enjoyable and comfortable. The building has been beautifully restored, with a main, airy relaxation room filled with plush couches. The bath itself was invigorating, and professional (female) attendants took care of us and made sure we felt "relaxed" -- as they kept repeating.

A great experience for anyone traveling to Istanbul, and a good hamam for the slightly reluctant or unsure tourist. Perhaps on the expensive side, but well worth the price.

“First time in a hamam!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

This was my first time in a hamam and I reallt enjoyed it a lot! The price is slightly better than the Hamam next to Ayasofya.
When you arrive there you receive a welcome drink and you afterwards you are brought to the changing room. There are lockers, you receive sealed flip flops and a fresh towel. Some girls kept their bikinis on otherwise you just use the towel around your hips to cover up yourself. Once you change you go to the hamam and there you lie on a hot stone and can look at the dome, or at the small star wholes in the dome. You can relax until one of the ladies is taking care of you. First comes the peeling and then you are being covered up in foam, and washed. They use Molton Brown products, and your hair is also being washed and you are also being offered a hair conditioner. Once the treatment is over you can relax in the reception hall. The hamam has been newly renovated and everything is very tasteful and fresh! You are being covered in fresh towels and can relax by a tea or other drink until you have to leave.
Once you decide to leave next to the changing rooms there are areas where you can dry your hair. They provide also a body lotion so that your skin does not get too dry.
Overall I loved this expereince and the place!
The hamam is really beautiful and the women are very nice. Also the men are very nice and friendly when I went there for the first time to leave my husband at the hamam, one of the men offered me to enter the building to see is at least from the inside! The only disadvantage is you cannot attend the place with your husband at the same time. The men are being trated from 16h30, women instead in the morning until 16h00!

“Look No Further. Really.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

After researching several hamams in Istanbul, from the popular "cheaper" ones (Tarihi Galatasaray Hamami, Çemberlitas Bath to the more upscale, Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam) the mixed reviews (most of it leaning into the negative reactions) started to deter me away from the idea of going to a Turkish bath house until I stumbled upon Kilic Ali Pasa Hamami. I went with the consistent positive reviews.

Prices (at the time of my visit):

Bath + Scrub + Foam: 130 TL ($73)
Full Body Massage (25 minutes): 80 TL ($44)
Full Body Massage (1 hour): 140 TL ($78)

Price may vary. Do contact them for an updated price list. This hamami is on the luxury/upscale category, but well worth the price and considering it in US Dollars and the quality of service and cleanliness of facilities. Certainly won't find the same quality and price at a spa in New York City. (Never been to a spa in my life. This is as close as it gets for me! And, cooler.)

Ambiance + Cleanliness:
At the time I went with a friend, it was quiet with only two visitors hanging around in the lounge. It's as if we had the whole place to ourselves. We went on a Wednesday late morning.

From the changing rooms to the bathing rooms they are spot clean (and they make it a point to make all guests to wear plastic covers on their shoes not to get the floors dirty or stained). No feeling of being in a public pool or gym locker smell.

The massage rooms are quiet and private.

Hours:
Special set of hours are designated for women and men. Visit their website for the updated hours.

Location:
The hamami is located in Tophane, adjacent to the mosque Kilic Ali Pasa Camii. Tram line station: Tophane. Tophane is a convenient walk from where I was staying in Beyoglu.

What to Expect:
Their website provides information in terms of what you should expect at their Turkish bath house. Expect to be fully nude except in the main common area. You are semi-nude for the first half of the bathing then fully nude for the second half.

(Though, I've read in some places that some guests can opt to cover themselves with a full or half of a bathing suit.)

The hamami provides you with towels. No need to bring anything, but yourself.

Service Quality:
Amazing. This includes my 25 minute body massage.

Common Area:
The staff encouraged us to relax and stay. No one rushed us out once we were done. There was no sense of time, it felt. Food (snacks and tea) is offered, but steep. But, that's expected. A cup of tea is 5TL.

The visit to Kilic Ali Pasa Hamami is certainly one of the highlights in my visit to Istanbul. Highly recommended.
