“Small jewel of a museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Visited the Pera for the collection of ceramics and tiles, but found that I enjoyed the weights and measures and the paintings as well, if not better. This museum was an afterthought, selected because the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art is closed for renovation. It's quite small but elegant with very well-designed exhibits and spaces. Not a "must see" museum, but, for the 10 lira admission price, well worth the visit.

“Pera museum and Auf restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

5 floors. I ve been impressed by the forth and the fifth floor, showing portraits of children of ancient aristochratic families. In those days only few people could afford a painter for drawing their image. Using photography, today, everybody can show his sembiance and personality to the intire world....maybe too much.... Do a double right thing: after visiting the Pera museum it's a good idea to have lunch at Auf Restaurant, next door.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Pera Muzesi was just in 5 min distance from hotel i was stayed(THE PERA HOTEL),so i visited this Museum in some next days after my arrival to Istanbul.I was very happy to see a exhibition named ALTIN COCUKLAR(GOLDEN KIDS).There was so much portraits of children of famous families of Europe. You can see some on pictures. Also i liked next exhibition on another floor, that was modern art. Especially i liked BOOKWHEEL(as i am a librarian :-)))) )....Some another exhibitions were also very interesting and nice. I spend around 3 hours at Museum, and i was very happy to see nice cafe in first floor, with perfect meal. So i can advice to everyone to find time and visit PERA MUZESI

“An Artistic Gem in Istanbul's New District”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

The Pera Museum just a block off the Istaklal mall between Tünel and Taksim Square is a relative compact, extraordinarily well composed resource more than worth a visit. Exhibitions display artistry, relevance, even a sense of humor.

“"Lovely change of pace in the New City"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

Not much to add to the excellent first review, except that the top 3 floors were occupied by a student art exhibit when I visited: lots of modern, edgy, multimedia pieces. These were a pleasant introduction to the museum before delving into the more mature pieces on the 1st and 2nd floors. The venue itself is beautiful, and each piece is presented with excellent lighting and spacing. I can't remember the exact admission charge (4TL?), but it was a song - and an excellent way to support the local art community. It's a hidden gem: there were perhaps 6 guests in the museum at noon on a weekday.

The cafe is more stylish than most in the area, and the free W/C is the cleanest and most modern in Istanbul.

Overall the museum is a lovely change of pace from the crowds and shopping of Caddesi Istiklal, and it's right next door to the Culinary Institute of Istanbul. Combine the two destinations for a perfect early afternoon.
