“You get what you pay for”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2011

Situated just a few minutes walk from the tram line and only a couple stops away from all the main sights is the plus about this hotel. Unfriendly staff and dirty room (hair and dirt on the floor when we arrived, hair on the sheets!). We had booked a double but recieved a twin. Breakfast was OK but tasteless and void of anything healthy, it consisted of dry buns & bread, tasteless cheese and turkish (?) pink sausages and chips...
The sourrounding area consists of mainly clothes shops and a good walk is required for dinner, as there are not many restaurants nearby, with the exception of three just down the road. This does not matter that much though, there are many good ones in Sulthanamet, where the Blue Mosque & Hagia Sofia are located.

Hotel restaurant is on the top floor overlooking the Bosphorous. Hotel is cramed in between other very tall buildings (common in Istanbul), so dont expect a good view unless maybe you stay at the top..

It was a fairly cheap hotel compared to some we looked at, and the standard is acordingly, but for me, a clean room and friendly staff are more important than standard, and sadly this was just not the case with Grand Ons.

Very slow but free Wifi Available.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 days.

The room was excellent, clean & tidy. Room was cleaned everyday & the staff here, apart from one, were very good & friendly. The communal areas were a very good standard.

We arrived late evening & decided to eat in the hotel restaurant rather then going out, however, the quality of the food was very poor & was very expensive. We had booked for B&B but the breakfast was the same everyday, it was a poor standard and no matter what time we seemed to go it seemed like it had been sat there for a long time. One thing which did seem strange was that they served chips & hotdog style sausages for breakfast everyday.

The hotel was advertised as only being a 10 minute walk away from the old city & tourist area, however it took us nearly 30 mins walk to get to the Blue mosque area. We spent most of our time in Taskim in the New City & this hotel was just too far away from there.

The hotel is just around the corner from the main bus route & Metro stop, the public transport is very cheap. There were several hotels. bars & restaurants around the hotel, some were reasonably priced others not. Laleli appears to have a large Russian tourist base, so much so large number of the shop signs were in Russian. The Hotel seemed to cater more towards a Russian client, and we were the only Turkish/English guests.

Apart from the food, we had no problem with this hotel itself, probably one of the better hotels we have stayed at in Turkey. One thing that would put us off staying here again is how far away from the New CIty it is, as that is where we choose to spend out time.

Stayed for 6 nights. Very, very friendly and nice staff in every department. Hotel is old and many things could be better, but you get what you are paying for.... For us, we needed a place to sleep, eat breakfast and feel safe. We met friendly and helpful people. Got very good help from the manager as we had not been able to confirm our visit to the Florence Nightingale museum! This was not easy, but she finally got us an appointment! The staff in the restaurant was very service-minded, and we were taken care of in the very best way. Only 10 min walk to the Grand Bazaar and 5 min to the tram.

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in the second week of May. The hotel is away from the Sultanamet Square but this did not bother us much as we had taken the tours for the first 3 days of our stay. On the second day of our stay we returned at 10.30pm from our tour to Bursa and found that the AC was not functioning and asked for another room for which we were refused as all the rooms were booked. The next day we were given another room and when we returned from our tour we found that the Ac in this room was not functioning so we got a different room. In this room the bathroom was without a lock and room was not very clean. Also, the receptionist was not very helpful when we asked him to call up our tour agent. The breakfast was Ok. On the whole we were not very happy with the hotel

I booked a 4 day break to this hotel through City Breaks UK.com for my sons 20th birthday.
I read the reviews here and was a little concerned that the place might not be good.
I need not have worried, the hotel is been refurbished and we got one of the new rooms and very nice they are too, nothing fancy just clean tidy and functional.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is near to the tram, all the major attractions are a short journy away, the tram is 1.5TL per journey and runs right over to the asian side.
There is also a Metro station (Aksaray) near to the hotel, we used this to get to the Forum shopping mall (Get off at Kartaltepe) which is supposed to be the biggest in Europe. It has a new ice museum, a fantastic aquarium and some nice places to eat or have a drink.

Well, it's very good location, better than you are in Sultanahmet, because walking to the see sights (15 min. from this hotel) you can see a lot of off the Istanbul, plus Kapali carsi (Grand Bazar) is on the way to Aya Sofia, Blue mosque and Topkapi Saray.

Accomodation is excellent, we had excellent room on 8. fluor with view to seaside and restaurant above the room. Bathroom is very good, clean, also room. But, please be careful about equipment or furniture, it is not stability, and if you brake something they will charge you double or triple price of the normal price of the part you brake. In my case I broke cap of the wc toillet and they charge it too, too much, unbelievable. Even I insist to speak to manager of the hotel they delayed that meeting until I had to check out to live the hotel and I must payed the price they want for that cap. Also regarding this staff were very unkind and not interesting to talk about. Bad value for this.

Food was very good, even it was the same menu every morning but you can eat much as you can.

I recommend to eat outside for a lunch and dinner and be free to walk and search fastfoods and restaurants with better prices, food is the same, but the prices are not even two restaurants could be side by side.
