“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

You can see the weapons and military equipment of Pre-Islamic Turkish states and the Ottoman Empire. It is too strange to see, Turkish-style arrows and bows, swords, and other extraordinary weapons like gasoline-powered gun. Please don't miss the Mehter Band concert necessarily limited hours.

“An old school military museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

The Istanbul military museum is an extensive and well maintained museum of the Turkish military with plenty of "old school" charm. A great collection of weaponry ranging from a Korea era jet fighter to an Ottoman era cannon and scimitars plus unusual exhibits such as Turkish submarine from the victoria era and a full scale recreation of the siege of Constantinople. As noted by other reviewers the parade of the military band is great fun and has emblematic and massive "Mehter drum" . There is plenty of text in english though the content gives a very "Turkish perspective" on conflicts such as Cyprus. Very informative on conflicts such as WW1 and the Turkish independence war. Overall a really good few hours if you have any interest in military history including episodes such as Turkey role in Korean war and full sotry of Gallopi landings. Some classic paintings and full size Ottoman cavalryman on a horse add to the charm. A good museum and well worth a few hours (it has five floors and lots of rooms!)

“Well worth a visit!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We went along to see the band that plays between 1500hrs and 1600hrs each day. Well worth seeing and also the 4 TL to get in. Looked around the rest of the exhibits and worth it just for the Starfighter and Sioux exhibits outside.

“Parade at the Miliraty Museum”

Great display of the Ottoman's Military music culture. Authentic, entertaining and loud! Impossible not to enjoy! It;s on every day - rain or shone, but please check exact hours when it starts.

“ABSOULUTLY FANTASTIC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

From the time you walk in the front gates, the displays are right there in front of you. When in side the museum, I advise to pay the little extra for your camera, as you will regret it latter in the afternoon when the Mether Band Performance comes on. The museum has military history and artifacts from the early years to recent. It also has a great display of WWI and the War of Independence. With WWI, it has scenes from the first landing at ANZAC Cove, and you can see the terrain that was present. Tere are many more scenes like this throughout the museum. To finish off the day, the Meter Band performs. and this is just absolutely fantastic. I have never seen a performance like this, where it is covered in the entrance fee.
This is a must to see if in Istanbul.
