We decided to spoil ourselves with trips to Turkey and Greece to celebrate turning 40, and I have to tell you, staying at the Adonis House in Istanbul was the smartest decision we could have made. Ahmet is the most gracious host and offers very comfortable and spacious flats for a very reasonable price (generally less than what you would pay at the more touristy hotels). SInce we were in Istanbul twice during our tour, we stayed in two different rooms of his, and they were all clean, relaxing, and had all the right personal touches (like juice, water, and tea waiting for us) and the privacy that you would generally only get from renting your own apartment.
Ahmet, a native Turk, speaks perfect English and is the most delightful concierge as well as accommodations manager. He will go the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable, even if it means greeting you personally when your flight lands in the middle of the night. He clued us in about a lot of great things to see and do in Istanbul that most tourists never hear or read about. We felt like were at home even though we were half way around the world.
The property is steps away from famous Taksim square, so you can walk out your door and take advantage of Istanbul's suburb public transit system to be zipped away immediately to any part of the city, by metro, tram, ferry, or even funicular. Even better, you are also steps away from the famed Istiklal boulevard, which is like Las Vegas Boulevard with a Turkish twist. live music, tons of restaurants and shopping, and the entertainment goes on all hours of the night. You are immersed in modern Turkey with only a tram ride away from the neighborhoods of old Constantinople where all the famous mosques and Grand Bazaar can be found. If you are anything like me, you like to see the touristy things but you are then quickly over it and want to spend time exploring the more unseen parts of the city and wind down with some good Turkish beer and freshly caught fish on one of the bridge-side cafes.
Anyhow, Istanbul is now my second favorite city in the world to visit (behind only Barcelona), and that was due in large part to our awesome accommodations. I could not possibly provide a more strong endorsement of the Adonis House.
