“Perfect for us - thank you!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

Highly recommend the Hanedan. Great location within easy walking distance of all the major sights e.g. Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Basillica Cistern. We had the Seljuk room on the first floor for our family of five which we found to be ideal for our needs. Clean and spacious enough even with the additional 5th bed they kindly provided. Very good buffet breakfast included to be enjoyed on the roof terrace with views across the Sea of Marmara in one direction and the spectacular domes of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia in the other. It was also the perfect place to retreat to when you wanted to escape the bustle of the city below. We grabbed some drinks from a local shop and sat up here relaxing at the end of the day before heading out to eat. Restaurants are plentiful and there is also a handy travel agent on the corner across the road which can organise any bus tickets with a taxi to bus station from the shop, trips etc for the next leg of your journey if travelling. The Hanedan will also orgainse a taxi to meet you at the airport and any tourist excursions. However, we preferred to find our own way about on foot and by tram.

Room Tip: Seljuk is a good family room on the first floor with air con. Faces the street but we had no problem...

Very good budget hotel. Rooms are tiny but clean. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Very close to the main areas of Sultanahmet but still on a quiet street which was nice. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Try not to get a room right below the roof top terrace, it can be noisy with people sliding their ch...

Location : Great if you're looking for a central place (10 min from Hagia Sofia, tram, etc.)
Room : Clean, small and convenient. Clean bathroom (with doors for the shower as oppose to many other places). Bonus : a mini- fridge in the room.
Other: nice staff, roof terasse, internet.

So, overall it is a good value but if you are looking for a place with a little "special something" , there might be better options for the same price such as Marmara guesthouse (same neighborhood) or Saruhan Hotel which is near the small Hagia Sofia, maybe 10 minutes away from Hanedan but in a neighborhood much more quiet.

Room Tip: Tip for the room : Our room was at the 3rd floor ( no elevator - that was not an issue for us -) and...

We stayed here on the first week of July 2013. I am glad that we decided to stay here rather than our initial plan in stay on New Istanbul area. The place is a walking distance to the Blue Mosque and most famous attractions in Istanbul. Also in the evening the whole street is very alive and a very nice place to chill after a long day of exploring the city. The place is quite and on the rooftop is a nice view of Hagia Sophia.

For those travelling to Istanbul for the first time this hotel is in the perfect location to easily access most of the major sites by foot (Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace etc.). However, the previous reviews on TA set pretty high expectations which unfortunately weren't met for us. The accommodation is clean and the staff polite, however our experience wasn't particularly good value for money. Excessive and continuos noise from about 6am each morning meant no possibility of a lazy holiday start to the day. This included drilling into concrete/brick on Saturday morning, some unidentified crashing sounds every morning and the hotel staff regularly yelling at each other, and down the phone, so loudly that it felt like they must be lying in bed next to you! We also had quite a serious leak from the shower recess in our bathroom and despite mentioning it nicely to the staff no attempt was made to fix it, or even to provide us with some extra towels to mop it up when we requested. The breakfast terrace is lovely (the food is not great - stale bread and terrible coffee) but there are rooftop terraces all over Istanbul so choosing this hotel on the basis of the view is a bit of a mistake. There are many hotels in this area so I'd suggest trying another; we won't be returning.

Room Tip: Requesting a room on a high floor may improve the issues with noise - we were on the first floor and...

We stayed here for 6 nights at the beginning of May. This was our first visit to Istanbul and after talking to friends and family they all recommended staying in the Sultanahmet area so after a long search to find a hotel in the area that was not ridiculously expensive, we found the Hanedan. The hotel arranged transfer to and from the airport (an additional cost) which was great because our flight arrived at midnight. We were in a family room which included one queen bed and two twins. The room was clean and a good size but the beds were a bit hard and the shower head pointed towards the wall when it was up so you had to hold it to rinse off. On a few nights we also had to put a towel over the floor drain because it seemed to be emitting a sewer like odour. It wasn't an issue all the time and the towel definitely helped. The gentlemen at the front desk were friendly and gave us suggestions on sites to see. The hotel has free internet and buffet breakfast which is good but very simple. Breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace which has gorgeous views. The hotel is on a small side street with no traffic and it is about a 5 minute walk from the Hagia Sofia and The Blue Mosque. This hotel is quite small and does not have an elevator which was not an issue for us but something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues. Overall good stay and we are looking forward to our next visit to Turkey.

I love this hotel and I think I have stayed there around 10 times.
I always stay in their big family room and it has always been clean an well prepaird. On top of the hotel there is a terrasse with view almost 360 degress around. This is also where the breakfeast is served, a traditionel turkish meal with bred, fruit and other delights.
The staff is really kind and friendly and will help you with everything day or night.
The building is old but charming and even thou it is on a crowded street you don't really hear the noise, which is really nice :)
Hanedan is located on an old osmanic steet which has been turned into a street with hotels, small shops and authentic resturants.
It is about 10 minuttes away from the rail and 15 minuttes
away from Grand Bazar.
So if you are going to Istanbul this is the perfect place to stay if you want to feel the old and the new city.
