“Amazing location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We stayed four night early December and had a fantastic time at Ishak Pasa Konagi.
The location is ideal, in the old city just a few hundreds yards from Haya Sofia and Topkapi Palace. It is also just minutes away from a busy restaurant street.
The room we stayed in was large, clean and with original features but the main treasure of the hotel is its staff:
Extremely friendly and helpful. Always happy to share their knowledge of the city, genuine and honest.
This a very good value hotel and we highly recommend it.
We will surely return to this hotel if we are back in Istanbul.

Dear Mrs. Veronica,

it was a pleasure to meet you and have a chat with you. I also would like to thank you for your uplifting comments about our place. I hope you will come back again in September which is the best month of the year. By that time, our pizzaria and wine seller will be all set.
By the way, smokey and snowy are missing you.
Happy New Year.

Dear Alline,

I should also say that it was a complete pleasure to meet you. Your comments about us has really inspired us.

I am really looking forward to welcoming you again in our place. Smokey and snowy are also missing you a lot as not many people allow them to sit in their lap.

Happy New year

Still under some construction. some small glitches with rooms. Extremely accommodating staff. Best breakfast in the area! Super convenient to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, The Cistern, the Metro. They arranged out transfer to/from the airport. Our stay was for three nights in late December, 2012. We had originally booked a triple, but when we arrived the room was not ready (they were still renovating the room) so they gave us the penthouse (honeymoon suite complete with patio and a circular skylight over a circular bed!) with an additional bed. Because the spare bed was very hard, they offered our adult daughter her own room with a nicer bed, all for no extra charge. The penthouse was wonderful. Luckily I am a deep sleeper and my wife had an eye mask, otherwise the sunlight would have had us up pretty early. As it was, the proximity to the great mosques has the morning call to prayer waking you up. (With 3000 mosques in Istanbul, that will be common unless you stay in a hi rise.) the trade off of being in the penthouse is that the patio gives you views of the Bosphorus and of the area. The second night, our triple was ready, so we changed rooms. The triple was what we needed- a double and a single with a bathroom. The TV had been fried during the renovation, but we didn't press the issue as they were super apologetic, and we had no intention of watching TV anyway. One of the best features of the place is the included breakfasts. We had breakfast at another hotel with some friends that we were meeting, and that spread was horrible (the Ferman Hotel, btw). The Konagi has eggs, cereal, coffee, squeezed OJ, breads, pastries, birds nests (poached egg in a roll) , cakes, cheeses and yogurts; a nice blend of Turkish and Western style breakfasts. The owner has spent time in the states, and understands that most Americans try to have a big, varied breakfast. When i talked to him, he said that many other hotel owners don't see breakfast as an important feature and do not invest in that. The other hotel had some old bread, processed lunch meat and old cocktail weenies for breakfast. We came back and ate a second breakfast at the Konagi.
The location is great- literally 5 minutes down the street from the Hagia Sophia, which is across the plaza from the Blue Mosque, which are both across the street from the cistern and a metro stop. The Metro costs 3 TL, (very cheap) and goes to the grand Bazaar, the Spice market, the port, and into the new city to Taksim Square.
The cost of the room includes a pick up from the airport. When I went to schedule a shuttle back to the airport, they put it on our tab, but then didn't charge us. From what i gathered they have a deal with the shuttle service, although I don't know if they provide free shuttle service to everyone or were still feeling bad about our room not being ready. Regardless, that saved us about 13 euro.
Overall, the stay was great. The rooms (other than the penthouse) are not exceptional, but are clean, tidy, and reasonably sized for the neighborhood. The price is comparable with other small hotels in the area, but the staff, the breakfasts, and the location make it a better deal.

The Ishak Pasa Hotel is in a great location, right in the heart of the old town. Staff were very friendly and helpful, would use this hotel again. They can also offer in inexpensive shared mini bus to the airport.

We stayed in a room with a small balcony which we could see the sea from. While we were there a bicycle race went by in the street, awesome. They were doing a bit of construction when we were there, but it didn't effect us. Are room was cozy and great.

I loved the breakfast. Couldn't get enough of it.

The staff is so nice. Friendly, accommidating, best in the world.

Room Tip: I think the may only have one room with a balcony. It was worth the view for us.

I really enjoyed my stay at Ishak Pasa Konagi. It was warm and cozy (even during the chilly, wet days of December) and it was great to come out of the rain and sit by the fire with the cats. The service was wonderful and the entire staff was extremely friendly. Tahsin arranged bus travel for us to and from Safranbolu, and also booked our hotel stay there. The breakfast was excellent and a bit different every day. I loved how it took different elements from traditional breakfasts around Turkey. And, of course, the fresh squeezed juice was delicious. The building itself is also beautiful, and the owners have done a great job maintaining its historical integrity. It was hard to believe we were so close to the Topkapi palace and all of Sultanahmet's other offerings. I truly did feel at home at Ishak Pasa Konagi and would recommend it to anyone!
