“Very good hotel in Istanbul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2014

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel, 2 rooms for 5 people, all women.
The hotel is very nice and clean. The breakfast is plentiful of sweet and salty food. The sweet ones are very very sweet, but this is usual in Turkey. Anyway, there is a lot of things to choose between, also fruit and yoghurt.
The room is nice, clean, with TV, hair dryer, very comfortable beds. The towels were only 2 for person but changed every day. They gave us also a free pair of slippers.
The staff was very kind and also allowed us to print our flight ticket the night before our departure. We also organised the transfer to/from the Sabiha airport with the hotel shuttle for 140 euros for the 5 of us.
The neighborohood is Fatih, central and close to Sulthanamet. We were only woman but we walked without any problems also at 12pm.
Near there is the T1 tram line who leads you to the most important turistic placese.
Go and enjoy Istanbul, a wonderful city with wonderful people!

We stayed at this hotel in January 2013. Booked a double room, non smoking on a high floor and got a pokey room with single beds on 2nd floor (hotel has 5 floors) that had been used by smokers (strong smell of tobacco ingrained in fabrics and furnishings). Room looked onto central area used by staff (probably smoked there).Complained next day and was shown 4 different rooms where decorators were still working and the oil based paint on doors was still wet. Commented that I would post a review on Tripadvisor and was shown to an acceptable room. On 4th day, returned to find they had painted our room and it stank of oil based paint plus the door frames were wet and we became stuck to them as we moved around and ruined our clothes. The smell was disgusting. We were not happy that a hotel had allowed tradesmen into our room to paint when all our belongings were on display. Don't use this hotel unless you enjoy the smell of rancid tobacco smoke and gloss paint and don't mind ruining your clothes.

Room Tip: As management appear to ignore all requests there is no useful advice to give.

You wouldn't pick this hotel for a luxury break - this is not a boutique hotel - but it doesn't charge boutique hote price either. But if you are pasing through Istanbul, as we were, it delivers a clean, quite comfortable room at a reasonable price. Beds comfortable, plumbinbg, slightly odd (fluctuating water pressure/temperature), breakfast ok, service desk ok. We booked through an agency which didn't pass mon our request for a twin room for our boys - but the hotel quickly addressed this when we discussed it with them. Situation is quite convenient - 2 minutes walk to the tram stop - with 2 stops to the Blue Mosque, and less than 10 minutes walk to the Grand Bazaar.

Room Tip: The lift is very small - so pick a lower floor room and walk up

Barin hotel is a great place to stay. Close to the Grabd Bazaar, ysou can take the tram, but also walk - it takes some 10 minutes. Rooms clean, breakfast good. Hotel personnel very nice and helpful. We stayed there for three nights.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking at the street. Corner rooms are the best, even have a small balcony.

We found the bar/reception area steril - no TV, no atmosphere. I mean the place was fine, but very ordinary. I suppose that's enough. No complaints - it's clean; the front desk people tried to be helpful; the rooms are standard. The breakfast is regular European style.

The location is pretty good for the major attractions. They will set up any tours for you that you may want. The tram is a few blocks away which is good for getting around.

There are plenty of good restaurants in the area.

Overall we were satisfied.

We had the misfortune of having our passports stolen in Istanbul and moved to this Hotel as our tour group was returning home the next day and our previous hotel did not have availability for us. The hotel, staff and food was excellent. We had to stay for another week until we received a temporary passport to return home. The staff helped me set up gmail so that I could communicate back home in Canada and talk with our government to try it get our passport process expeditated. Each day they inquired as to how we were doing and gave us directions on how to get around the city. the rooms were very clean and the cleaning staff talked to us like family.
When we finally got our temporary passports, the tour company did not arrange for our flight home as promised and the the Hotel manager arranged to look up direct flights for us to return.
The staff gave us suggestions as to places to eat and were very reasonalble. I would certainly recommmend this Hotel to anyone staying in Istanbul and it is centrally located within walking distances of several attractions. Great value and amazing staff.
