Just came from a 4 nights stay at istanbul , we stayed at Grand Halic hotel
The hotel is in a very good location near a metro station and across the street there is a bus station, just 10 mins walk to Istiklal street and 15 mins walk to taksim square
the hotel is very clean and according to the standards of istanbul its a basic 4 stars hotel , the room is very clean but very small, we had a king bed room and asked for a baby cot for our 6 month baby so the room had no space to move, the bathroom is clean but seems not to be renovated for ages, our room had no view we even cant open the curtains as the rooms are facing each others but i think there are rooms with a view to the bosphorus infront of the hotel
the breakfast was so basic and is the same everyday so some days we skipped the breakfast, the waiters dont know anything in English , i asked one day for a straw he didnt know about it even a fork he didnt know what does it mean
for the staff i can say that they dont know anything about hospitality noone understands english which was so disapointing, also the receptionists were so rude and unhelpful and of course dont know how to speak or understand english, I asked the girl there about the city tour sightseeing bus she didnt know anything about it and just through the flyer into my face, one night i asked the man there about my rooms' key he replied in a very rude way , noone knows where a pharmacy is located, I even stayed for 3 days very ill and cant find a pharamacy !!!! when i was checking out the girl refused to take the rooms' keys although our bags were down stairs till the rest of the group give her the rest of the keys which i cant understand the reason behind that
Overall i discovered that this is the common attitude for turkish ppl that they rnt welcoming to any tourist if he speaks a language other than turkish which is the case for all the tourists visiting istanbul as i faced so many problems with shopkeepers and even in the airport , they are really very funny they reply in turkish and look at u that how come u dont understand r u stupid or what so if you want to communicat with anyone u should learn turkish before visiting turkey
So to conclude i recommend this hotel and of course visiting istanbul but dont expect anything good , help or even a smile from the turkish ppl not only Grand Halic Staff !!!
I think its my last time to visit istanbul as I didnt like the attitude of the ppl there that made me nervous through out my trip I just relaxed after I came back home
