“Too busy, too commercial ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Lots of shops that you would find anywhere in the world. In fact you could be anywhere, there s nothing typical or remarkable about this discrict. If you have time or if you are in the area check it out but if you are in Istanbul for only few days give it a miss

“the heart of İstanbul”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

it is the best area in İstanbul where you can find all kind of cafes, pubs, bars, etc. while you walk around here, you can see the most amazing architecture samples of old İstanbul. Nevizade is highly recommended!

“Commercial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

The main shopping street is in this area. All top shops are here, but go down the side alleys much more fun.

“Nice if you have time, but probably not a must-see”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

We walked around this area for a while on our trip. While it was an interesting area, the shopping street is basically the same as most shopping streets in European cities. So if you do feel like window shopping, it's probably OK, but if you want culture or attractions, there's not as much going on.

Near the northeastern end is Taksim square. It's not very interesting, frankly, but there are a few statues and flags. Near the southern part of the district is the Galata Tower. That's definitely worth a look if it's a clear day (or night), since it's got views of the old town.

Do avoid going on the Tünel "subway" thing, though. It's literally about 60 seconds, and while the price is already too high, they apparently overcharged us, but when we went back to try to ask for an explanation, the guy at the window wasn't helpful at all. In the end, just walk up the hill, since it'll be good to burn off some vacation food calories.
