My wife and I reserved a "large" double with a view of Aghia Sofia for one week in the beginning of January 2007. Upon arrival, we were given a tiny room with no view. I immediately complained and they said that while sorry, they were supposedly full. The next day we were given a choice of three rooms and took a large room with a magnificent view.
We went sightseeing that day and the next, When we returned that evening we were told that they were closing the hotel for "unexpected" renovations and we would have to move to their sister hotel Sultanahmet. Unfortunately for them we checked out this hotel which is an absolute disaster. We refused their offer saying we would move to a hotel of our choosing and they went hysterical at this loss of income. They told us that we could stay the rest of the time and that we would have no problems.
We went out again the next day and when we returned, we were now told we had no choice, we absolutely had to move since they would shut off all services such as heat, electricity, hot water etc. They once again tried very hard to make us move to the Sultanahmet but I refused, demanding that they refund the four days still remaining since they always demand prepayment. After two hours of delaying, they finally paid and we moved down the street to the Hotel Tan where we happily and pleasantly spent the rest of our holiday. I highly recommend the Hotel Tan.
While this hotel really has many plusses, the major negative is that the management seems to be inherently dishonest in their dealings with guests. Do not even think of booking this hotel or their Sultanahmet sister hotel.
