“orient feels like home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2011

I just came back from my holiday in Istanbul.
I've stayed in the orient hostel in Sultanahmet.

Orient Hostel International is a hostel on an amazing location.
You will sleep near the aya sofia, blue mosque and topkapi palace.
It has an amazing view. if your standing on the roofterrace you have the view of the sea between european and asian side.

Its a perfect hostel for backpackers but also for families. They have a 30 bed room (for backpackers who don't want to spend a lot of money) but they also have single and double rooms.

The people who are working there speak perfectly english and are polite to their costumers. if you need help with something dont hesitate to ask them because they will always help.
also you have a travel agency with nice tours to for example gallipoli or cappadocia.
If you have questions about some tours the people of the travel agency are always helpfull to inform you about the tours.
I did the cappadocia tour and i have to tell you its a good organized 4 day tour. the tour includes food and you have a guide who knows a lot about cappadocia.

Food is good and the rooms are clean at Orient.

I had an amazing time over there and i left there with a big smile on my face.

I stayed here in May 2011. Excellent location next to all the most popular sights in old city, beautiful panoramic view from the rooftop, nice rooms and reasonable prices... And the staff! The staff is so friendly in Orient that I still miss them ))

We stayed here in September. i wouldn't hesitate to stay again. The position is brilliant right in the middle of the old town. We had a double room which was clean and towards the rear of the building which was noise free. The staff are super friendly and efficient.
Sitting on the roof having breakfast or a late drink looking at the Blue Mosque listening to the call to prayer is a special memory

Room Tip: towards the rear

Since I have a hard time sleeping in noisy locations, this was NOT the place for me. The hostel is well-located on Aykbyk Cad, with a lot of restaurants and bars, and not a far walk from Sultanahmet stop. I did get turned around a bit but then I wasn't following a really good map. Staff is helpful. I could have done without the late-night music. My single room on the second floor was barely bigger than the double bed in it. One bathroom and two shower stalls on the floor were relatively clean. It helped that I had a room in my sink. No fan. The window was probably a 1-foot by 1-foot square and on the hot day, didn't do much for air movement. I stayed here one night and relocated to a better for me location on Divan Yolu [old city esma hotel] for my other four nights in Istanbul.

The Bride & I have not stayed in an hostel since our late teens - until early July 2011. We had been in an excellent hotel nearby but after inspecting the rooms at the Orient and at the urging of our 16 & 23 years old sons we transferred. We were shown into a double room with en suite, spectacularly clean, airy & roomy. Cheery greetings from everybody as we inspected the breakfast & dining room, the kitchen, terrace, rooftop dining area with magnificent view of the Golden Horn to the SE, the 'Blue Mosque' to the SSW, Agya Sophia to the WNW & Topkapi to the NW. All in the heart of Old Istanbul, the Sultan Ahmet precinct. Meals were available from early morning until well into the night - all were excellent eating & value. Ask for an Efes tower with your meal - and wait for a local or an Aussie to join you. The alfresco street level frontage is the window to the ambience and the soul of the Orient's success. We always felt cared for, not fawned over. We saved a lot of money by taking up the staff suggestions for shopping, trips, a bath at a marvellous haman - and dining mostly in house at a fraction of retail prices elsewhere. When we left, Sadir met us at 0630 with the gift of a parcel of splendid sandwiches and a free transfer to the airport!!! No prize for guessing where we stay next year. Thanks to ALL the wonderful staff, cleaners, drivers, cooks, the grand old gentleman owner & management. Photos to follow soon. Orient rules!

Room Tip: Book ahead & take their advice.
