“Ideal for a short stay in Sultanahmet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

Ideal location for a short stay in Sultanahmet. Very friendly and helpful staff, very good breakfast (terrace available) and access to the roof for a beautiful seaview. Small room - although it seems to be the standard in Sultanahmet - and average comfort. Unfortunately, our room was not on the Bosphorus side, but close to the reception. Therefore it was a bit noisy and we could hear everyone in the hallway. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Poem; it was a good 3-star hotel but a bit pricey considering that you can get a 4-star hotel for the same price in Beyoglu area. That being said, I would recommend it if you want to stay in Sultanahmet and be close to all tourist attractions.

The very best thing about this hotel is its location in Sultanahmet. It's a few minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, Hagi Sophia and the Basilica cisterns. The rooms are reasonably priced compared to other hotels in Sultanahmet. We stayed for 4 days in total over 2 stays. We were upgraded to a nicer room for the final day, which helped as the rooms are on the small side. Breakfast was a nice start to the day with a nice view of the Bosphorus from the terrace but the buffet did start to feel a bit same-y by the end. Service was polite and helpful although we did not really seek anything special during our stay so cannot really comment too much on this area. In the nearby tourist market behind the mosiac musuem, there is a small, really inexpensive restaurant (Dervish cafe) that sells really great Turkish food.
If you're on a budget and plan to spend most of your time outside of the hotel, this a good base to sleep, wash and keep your luggage whilst you explore Istanbul. We travelled to Istanbul during Ramadan and whilst I cannot comment on the way Istanbul celebrates Ramadan annually but this year there were late night concerts, families having picnics in the local parks and night markets. Really good fun.

The pictures shown on this review are NOT accurate. There is no rooftop terrace for breakfast, and the rooms are abysmally, cartoonishly small. There isn't room to have a suitcase on the floor and walk around the bed, it's THAT small.
One of the reasons I stayed here was the pictures of the rooftop terrace. Again, this does NOT exist. There is just a small narrow terrace with barely a view.
The breakfast is mediocre.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful, and the location convenient, although this part of Sultanahmet is just a raw pure-tourist strip.
This is not worth the rate. Find another option.

Room Tip: If you do stay here, make sure you get a room with a view. Otherwise, it will be claustrophobic and...

If you want 5* luxury this isn't for you. If you want a safe friendly city centre location this is great. The rooms are clean but a little small as you would expect in a period property.
Staff cannot do enough for you
There are 3 terraces that you have to hunt out including a roof terrace that has great views as the sun goes down and the staff will even serve drinks here
Good choice of food for breakfast where you can sit on a nice shady terrace to start the day

I picked her from the Internet, and could not have been happier. This is not a fancy place, but its a welcome retreat from a busy day of touring just a stones throw from the Blue Mosque. There is a wonderful bakery in the block, great inexpensive food in walking distance. The Ikea bed could use some reinforcement. But I highly recommend this quaint spot for a long weekend.

Very good stay here in June 2012. The hotel is down a quiet street, just off a road with dozens of lovely restaurants and cafes, and the the location is an easy walk to the main attractions in Sultanahmet - Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar - and the tram to the boats! We were in a room overlooking the bay out to the Black Sea, it was clean and well-serviced though sparse, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and it was very affordable - what more could you ask for?

My cousin who has been to this hotel 5 times booked the hotel as she loves staying here. And I could see why. Location wise it is on a quiet cul de sac just off one of the main streets in Sultanahmet. So while you have cafes and restaurants practically on the doorstep (50m), they are far enough away so it is peaceful. Handy when some local musicians are playing the drums on a saturday night on the main strip and as soon as you close the door of the hotel you can't hear it. When I checked in the man at reception was very helpful, he gave me the hotel card which explained where we were located and then a city map, yet again pointing out where the hotel was and closest trams stops and the sites. The room itself looked out to the sea and so with the 'super moon' that occurred during my stay the view of the sea was equally magical at night as it was during the day. I liked that the rooms had names as opposed to numbers. The twin room wasn't big but it was big enough for our needs. It was clean and the bathroom was a good size with a powerful and clean shower and hair dryer. Breakfast was lovely and the sitting area was so relaxing. The resident cat(absolutely beautiful) would make an appearance, never in an intrusive way just would sit somewhere and sleep. Hotel booked airport shuttle for me, you can get it for €5. The rooftop seating area is a treat, you can see the Blue Mosque and perfect for warming your bones reading the paper or a book. Speaking of books there is an book exchange library opposite reception. The hotel was 5/10 mins walk to the nearest tram stop and it was just a pleasure to stay here. Granted I'm someone who doesn't spend alot of time in my room on holiday or hanging around a hotel but was perfect for our needs and liked that one morning we took a very long breakfast and wasn't disturbed, it was perfectly relaxing. I would definitely stay here again if I returned.
