“Nice boutique hotel !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

This hotel is right in the heart of Sultanahmet, walking distance to most of the tourist attractions around. Its a bit pricier, but it has excellent views, great service and awesome breakfast. We stayed in the maisonette (duplex suite) for 4 nights, and it was all just perfect. We had a view of the sea and the hagia sophia from the patio. The room was a good size for a family of 4 adults. We would come to the hotel in the afternoon, to take a break from visiting all attractions at once. The staff is pretty welcoming, and will help you load your luggage, book cabs, etc. The hotel has lovely gardens, and very friendly cats, my daughter just adored them !! Overall it was a great experience staying at Empress Zoe.

Room Tip: I would say maisonette is a great room for a family of 4, with awesome views !!

If you are prepared to stay in Sultanahmet, where there are certainly many other tourists, this boutique hotel, run by two American sisters, offers a welcoming and luxurious retreat from the crowds. The suites of rooms and those in the rear and overlooking the lovely garden, are probably best - at least, one single room in the main hotel building was rather basic. The breakfast, bar and general ambience can't be faulted. The staff speak good English and are well-informed and very helpful.

we stayed here for 4 nights and had an amazing time. we were in the penthouse suite which is beautifully atmospheric. the actual bedroom feels like a panelled cabin on an upmarket wooden yacht - yes one side of the bed is up against the wall and some May find it a challenging space in which to swing one of the many cats that populate the streets - but how romantic! To be woken by the multiple calls to prayer and then to gently stroll to most of the major historic sites is perfect. And the private terrace (and hidden gardens) are perfect for unwinding after a day's sightseeing. the staff are very friendly and helpful - especially the charming barman! And where else would you find yourself staying tin the same hotel as a former head of MI6 and a senior politician... This is the place to base yourself to explore the delights of a great city (do go on the culinary back streets tour) and write aromatic spy novel...

Room Tip: We loved the penthouse but the garden rooms also seem great

What a fab place to stay. Located in the old town of Istanbul, moments away from restaurants, bars and sightseeing, this is a perfect place to stay for a mini break in Istanbul.

We booked the 2 bedroom apartment between friends and it was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We spent a lot of time outside of the hotel but when we came back it was a lovely sanctuary to put our feet up, sit on the terrace and watch the world go by.

A little bit noisy, due to outside traffic, but otherwise, great little stylish hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights, when we arrived after a looong flight from Sydney that arrived at 9am. As our room was still occupied (I think check out is 11am) the staff were extremely helpful and booked us into a hammam that was about 15 minutes walk away- great way to fill in a couple of hours til we could get into our room . This was our first visit to Istanbul and Empress Zoe is close to many wonderful sites -Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Haghia Sophia, Grand Bazaar etc are all very close. Breakfast has lots of choice and was delicious and the garden dining area is lovely. The staff are all helpful in a genuine way (ie they are not just trying to sell a product). This area of Istanbul is very commercial and you are constantly harassed on the street to buy stuff.

On our return trip after we had been to Cappadocia we stayed in Beyoglu and when we go back to Istanbul we will probably stay in Beyoglu, it’s still very commercial but not so full of touts peddling tourist stuff..

We loved our 6 nights at this hotel. Positioned in the old & historic area, high on the hill with views on the top terrace of the Bosphorus. The hilly streets outside are narrow & cobbled, with many restaurants to choose from. The location is excellent with Topkapi, Blue mosque and Aya Sophia all a short 5 minute walk away. Trams and taxis are also close by for seeing other areas of Istanbul. The rooms are comfortable and breakfasts in the garden terrace delightful. Great to come back to each evening, have a drink from the bar and sit on one of the terraces before heading out for an evening meal. The staff are great and the spiral stairs are not a problem.

The Empress Zoe is a lovely small hotel with the most beautiful garden where you can escape after a day of touring hectic Istanbul -- enjoy breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea, or a great glass of wine. My room was very small BUT very economical -- so after walking around Istanbul I'd enjoy the garden and plan the next day. The hotel is located walking distance to all the key sights -- Blue Mosque, St Sofia's, Tokapi Palace, Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar. The owners, Ann and Vetik, are charming and have a first class operation. Lovely breakfast in the morning in the indoor or outdoor dining area. The staff are very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful -- getting you a tour, taxi, or giving advice on what you might like to see. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Room Tip: The single small room I had was very noisy since it fronted to the street -- but the hotel advised m...
