We booked Ayasofya Hotel on the recommendation of some people we met at a New Years party of mutual friends. We were telling them of our planned trip to Istanbul and they strongly recommended this hotel, especially as it has an Australian owner. During the planning and booking of our extended Uk, Turkey and Greece trip we spoke to our travel agent, and she offered to book the hotel in Istanbul as we knew exactly where we wanted to stay. When we arrived at the hotel late in the afternoon in Istanbul, a new country, no language, no experience, no knowledge, we were informed that our booking has been "cancelled". We could not understand what we were being told. We had booked 6 months before through a reputable Australian agent, Jetset. We were told they would put us up at a nearby hotel "for the night" and we would have a room for the remainder nights we had booked. Our room at the nearby hotel was very small, no windows, ground floor just adjacent to the foyer and hotel desk. Lots of loud noise. No view. Very disappointing.
The next morning we had breakfast at Ayasofya, and the owner greeted us as long lost friends and was very helpful and generous with use of internet etc. I emailed our travel agent in Australia about our booking and she confirmed that no-one has cancelled our booking.. We booked a room there on our return from Greece 10 days hence (very trusting!) and were confirmed. Needless to say, on our return from Greece there was no room for us. We were directed to a nearby appartment, a new investment of the owner. We were utterley gutted by this conclusion to our stay Istanbul. I would not recommend this hotel to others as I would not want ths same thing to happen to them

Thank you to our guest for wrıtıng theır revıew. I would lıke to respond by sayıng that thıs booking came to us via Hotel,beds a booking service used by travel agents via their online systems, We had receıved 2 cancellatıon notices for this guest which are front of me now as I write . For this I have no explanation from our end but it defıntely was cancelled. For the first night we found them a room at a nearby hotel and then the next day they were moved to our hotel for the next 3 nıghts.

Our staff were very kind to them on arrival when they arrived. The lady guest was upset because she had left her wine in the taxi and Sıam arranged for a bottle of wine free of charge to be provided to their hotel room just across the road. We respected their every request, bringing ice and soda to their room whenever they requested ıt. The guest spent a lot tıme in my office with assistance while she was making her travel bookings for onward travel in Turkey and Greece, Free of charge! They appeared to be happy when the left,
On their return they were allocated a room in our new building which is also part of the hotel. The room was small but had a small kitrchen and a lovely view of the nearby mosque and the seas and jwas ust 150 metres to the blue mosque. I do not appreciate my staff being yelled at at reception about room allocation. They were given a reduction in their tariff because it was in a different building, Gutted:??? there a many things in life to be gutted about but I dont believe being given a nice clean room with a sea view and close to one of the most wonderful sights int the world isnt one of them!
