The best 5 dollar entrance fee you'll spend in Istanbul! Definitely a bit dangerous -- no safety mechanisms, VERY high narrow walls! --- which is part of the excitement! Great views. Great place to spend some hours and sit and watch the Bosphorus go by.

“So worth a visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

This is a place of historical significance and great beauty. It is unspoilt, not crowded, a peaceful place. The grounds are natural with trees and animals a plenty. We ate fresh fruit and nuts picked from the trees. Wear sturdy or flat shoes, the walls are accessible and not for the faint hearted but the views are to die for!

“Amaizing veiw of the Bospherous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Go for the view. This is an awesome fort so interesting and worth visiting if you are not afraid of heights. I went and I am deathly afraid of heights I still walked the walls of the fort but was holding on for dear life. The most interesting part is climbing the walls and seeing views from all angles. Just be prepared and wear good stable tennis shoes or hiking shoes.

“Amazingly romantic, i dint wanna leave”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

What an amazing fortress, More of a sanctuary, i spent half a day on my lst day, felt emotional, the walls have a strong character, protected by all the trees, happy singing birds, the view is sensational, romantic place actually, i fell in love !!! Photogenic place, take alot of pictures. Not to mention the victorious history, easily felt. Followed TA instructions: tram to kabaras, then bus to rumeli hisari, easy and cheap. Walked the coast in my way back, amazing walk, till i think Bebek, no view beyond .

“Felt like I was an explorer out of a movie”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

I loved the Rumeli Fortress. A huge medieval fortress which to my delight we were able to climb all over

I felt like I was an explorer out of a movie, scaling steep steps up to the top of the 30-odd metre high walls and gazing down on beautiful views of the Bosphorus.

A word of warning: the steps are _very_ large, some almost as high as my knee (and I have long legs). And while I found the lack of overzealous occupational health-and-safety aspects very refreshing (no hand railings here, just a 30 metre drop to the ground), some people might disagree.

If you're fit and healthy, this place is highly recommended - if you have knee problems or a fear of heights, maybe not so much.
