“Very good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Crystal hotel is situated on the modern European side near isteklal cad. Street ( one of the shopping areas) the location of the hotel is about 15 mins walk, 3 mins walk to the subway station and 1 min walk from the bus stop 5 mins walk from the bus station, less than 1 min walk to the nearest two money exchange shops ,the hotel area is good though i advice tourists to try something new near the sea in their 2 visit, this location is safe live all night but you need to try somthing authentic and non conventional ,this area makes you mingle with tourists mostly and turks who deal with tourism where as other areas you deal with the real authentic country residents and get the real deal of magic Istanbul ( somewhere like ortakoy would be just amazing )
I will say the usual review for this hotel :
- location: excellent though if you rent a car you would find it hard to park near ,renting a car in turkey is a Must so you go sea the far away touristic areas like rumeli feneri and asian side etc also to do shopping freely without worrying to carry much bags and walk, pls note petrol prices in Turkey are HIGH. Very high but its worth it, we rented a nice mercedes and it was really another experience than the previous visits. So no parking spot in this hotel, you park and walk 15 min s to the hotel, and u can get lucky and park in their free close by streets.
- breakfast: good variable but almost the same every day. Try their fresh break and honey with sesame paste ( typical turkish)
- the staff in this hotel are better than the three hotels I tried before in my previous three visits.
- the room: small i rented a single room for my self they gave me a twin bed room the room is good for two but w'd be small as rest of all Istanbul 4 star hotels in this area.( cartoon /Riva) the cupboard hardly took all my clothes ,bathroom is okay.
You can hear wts going on on your neighboring rooms close by. As usual walls are thin
Try the hotel its good...specially if you will take the room to your self alone
And pls pls enjoy the real turkey as much as you can and avoid shopping its addictive there it will consume all your time and money ..postpone it till the last day only:)) enjoy

Room Tip: Tip the receptionist and smile:))

Well, we stayed at this place completely by chance!
We wanted to stay at Cartoon Hotel, but a travel agency booked Hotel Lion for us. Surprisingly, when we reached there, the reception patiently said: "there is not any available room, but we booked a room for you in Crystal Hotel! Be sure that it is a better hotel!"

Funny and unbelievable?! yes, I know!

I and my two sisters stayed at Crystal for three nights. The lobby was good and the reception was friendly. The 3-bed room was clean. not too large, but large enough. it was a little dark.

The bathroom was not clean enough. you could easily see germs all over the bath!
There was not any sandal, also any handkerchief in the room. House keeping was awful. We ran out of toilet papers and nothing happened after our call! No brushes and toothpaste!

The reception were weak in speaking English. Their only choice for going to the attraction points was taking a cab! which is really expensive in Istanbul.

rooms have free WIFI, but not in a good speed.
The breakfast are good, not excellent. you could find just two kinds of fruits on the table. Besides, the table's service was a bit slow. I found the table empty of tea, bread and egg several times. the food was a bit cold.

The hotel's advantage is its location; Taksim area is the best place to stay in Istanbul, because it is near the metro and bus stations. The hotel is just a minute walk far from Taksim square and Istiklal Caddesi, the most famous pedestrian road in Istanbul with lots of shops and cafes.
You can find Dovis to exchange your money, just a few steps far from the hotel.

All in all, the accommodation at Crystal hotel is an economy experience. If you are tight on budget, the hotel won't disappoint you.
In comparison to Antalia, where you go just to rest and have sun bathing in the hotel, I believe that in Istanbul, you would definitely use the hotel just for sleeping, taking a shower and eating your breakfast. Other rimes, you would enjoy the attractions of the city and delicious Turkish foods.
But if you are those kind of persons who spend lots of time at their room and expect comfortable facilities in the rooms and lobby's, maybe Crystal is not a good choice. Try 5 star hotels like Swiss Hotel.

We had a long layover in Istanbul and were giving free lodging at this hotel by Turkish Airlines. The staff were overwhelmed by the amount of Turkish Airlines passengers that poured in because of bad weather, but I feel they handled things as best they could and were reasonably polite and accommodating. Our room was pleasant and well-heated. The bathroom was very nice and seemed recently remodeled! Much better than many hotels in the States! Room was mostly clean, but I did find some cigarette ash on one of the beds (Maybe the maids smoked?). Overall it was clean and inviting. Well lit and spacious. After a long and stressful journey, it was comfortable enough for us.

Insufficient cleanness standard, the room although supposed to be a family room, was small with absolutely different specifications from these mentioned in their promotion pictures, the A.c is not good. No wifi, the carpet was dirty, bathroom the same. The only good thing is that the room is on taksim square near metro station but away from the historical parts and you cant go by foot. For me you should book a hotel in sirkesi area near ayia sofia. It is much better!

Location is great. I got a room on the third floor with a side view, an old building was all my view. The internet connection was touch and go. More than once I had to go to the lobby to connect to the net. Staff was ok ( I speak Turkish). Breakfast was good.
