“Not the greatest view, but a good hotel nontheless”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

The location of the hotel was good, close to many restaurants, stores, and nearest train stop. The staff was friendly, and helpful, they let us drop our bags even before we were able to check in since our room was not ready by the time we arrived (11am, and check in was at 3pm). They even upgraded us to a double bed room per our request, at no extra cost (the standard is a 2-single beds room). The room was clean and spacious, although the decoration and furniture was a little dated. The room had a strong smell of perfume, which caused me allergy, but after talking to the front desk, they took care of it, and by the time we arrived for the night, the problem was solved, There was variety in the breakfast buffet, but it tend to be the same type of items everyday. Overall, nice stay.

Nice location, comfortable room and nice breakfast in the morning. Location is a commercial area but a short walk to the tram which gives you access to the major sites. The problem is we were constantly riding the tram, which got very crowded 4:00-6:00 p.m. We had a room on the street side and it was noisy and we were waken by the call to prayer from the local mosque at 6:00 a.m. each morning. There are also other hotels nearby and restaurants. If you are looking for a more local experience this is not the place. Very much modeled on a European hotel. Staff is helpful. I didn't like that we were immediately pressed into tours by the person who checked us in. I felt it was high pressure and at a time when we were exhausted. We also found that we could do better elsewhere.

Enjoyed this hotel, in a quiet yet well located area (commercial/textile area). Just down the road from the Tram line, about 15 minutes walk to the Grand Bazaar and other tourist attractions. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We booked some tours through the Hotel and they were very nice. Good breakfast, with choice for tourists from around the world. Bedroom very comfortable. Hotel has been nicely renovated, yet still maintaining some "old world" charm. Missed having tea making facilities in the bedroom - could do with a kettle - as a cup of tea is very welcome first thing in the morning, or after a hard day of sightseeing! Will definitely stay at the Yigitalp again, if the opportunity arises.

Hotel was ideally located close to a tram line and the main attractions. The hotel was clean and we liked the charming look of the hotel. The hotel staff made you feel welcome on arrival and all of them were very helpful and gave good advice. Breakfast was very good. We will retrun again. Very nice sweet shop with all the temptations of nougat and turkish delight in the area.

The room was good of good quality: sometimes the showersystem doesn't have enough capacity to produce enough power, here it certainly did. The beds were fine, as well as the pillows. Towels were of the same quality as in Yangdagko hotel in North Korea (used very, very often).

Service was lowsy: after we did not chose to book a daytour through the hotel, the staff on duty (who pushed very hard for us to book this tour, and to book it directly) was clearly not very happy with us (we did not book the tour because of that pushing and because we wanted to check whether it was good value for money, which it wasn't). A few days later we asked some information on how to get to a certain restaurant in that neighbourhood, which is one of the top 10 restaurants in Istanbul according to Tripadvisor. We received the answer "there are maybe a million streets in Istanbul, so I don't know", although the staff member had an explorer screen opened on his computer.

However, the bell boys are quite friendly and certain staff members of the breakfast area are also nice.

The breakfast, as often is the case in hotels, is not made with any love.

Room Tip: Not all floors have elevator access.

It was a last minute special price and I got more than I expected. The rooms are quite small (like everywhere in Istanbul) but the localization of hotel gives you a reward - in the walking distance from Haga Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi and Grand Bazaar. PLUS - just three minutes walk from T1 blue tram line, which takes you to second part of town, through Galata Bridge and Golden Horn.

Food is good. The desk personell speaks English, they are friendly and helpful.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

We were two families booked in for a 8 night stay. I booked a triple room. Upon arrival we were informed that both families could not have rooms on the same floor triple rooms were not available alongside connecting rooms. I was taken to the 6th floor which has no lift access. All I can say Is whatever you do avoid the 6th floor the room was tiny we had to squeeze past the beds. That however was not the main gripe. That came at 1am when the air condition unit located on the 6th floor started up with a loud drilling sound. I walked the whole of the 6th floor and it cud be heard everywhere. Two phone calls to reception and at 5am I was informed we cud change rooms the next day. One night without any sleep. The next day lo and behold we are moved to a large triple room next to our other family. Obviously there were suitable rooms when we booked in we just weren't offered them. Room was fine except the fridge did not work and took two visits to reception and two days to fix also shower head broken. U get a free meal when u book over 7 nights, sounds good when u hear about the 5 star restaurant. Avoid it it was utter tripe. The meal we got was not featured on the restaurant menu probably because it was reconstituted donner kebab accompanied by 6 yes 6 chips an some rice. It was not good. You also get a free half day cruise which is a bonus. Unfortunately not for me as when the staff switched my room my ticket for the cruise was misplaced. I thought reception would be blue to help with this which they certainly did by telling me to go find the staff member wherever they were in the hotel and get it bak. Thank u for your help on reception mr Omer! Hideous staff on reception rude arrogant and misleading. Staff in the restaurant were lovely and breakfasts were good. As I said hit and miss
