“Excellent location, friendly people, super room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff helpfully arranged for our travel from and back to the airport which we thought was reasonably priced and was added on to the hotel bill to save hassles. They suggested tours and events we might like with no pressure or expectations at all that we would buy. As it was, the tour they recommended was superb in every way and far better than a tour we had arranged from home. The room was excellent, a brilliant view of Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. It was clean and had plenty of room. The rooftop restaurant was excellent on the first night but standards fell after that so we ate elsewhere, the neighbourhood is full of lovely places to dine. We felt nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was superb and we would recommend this place but book a superior room, it is well worth the extra.
Hotel location is excellent - you can walk to Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, Grand Bazaar and so on.

Room Tip: Book a superior room for the best value.

A great location, two minutes' from Agia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. If you're taking a taxi though expect a roundabout route as it's a little difficult to drive there, with all the one way systems in Sultanahmet.
The hotel had made a double booking so we had to stay in a different hotel for the first night (also good, though a very small room), but everything was arranged well so our bags were delivered for us, with minimal fuss, and the hotel arranged for a car to take us to the new place - useful when travelling with an elderly mother. The hotel also upgraded our room for the remaining nights. Good breakfast and friendly staff, and everything was clean. Watch out for the slippery bathroom floors when wet though. And the wifi was pretty laughable - I couldn't get any connectivity.
My mother dropped her mobile phone in a taxi and the taxi driver kindly returned it to the hotel, even though we had by that time gone home. True Turkish hospitality! The hotel staff were very helpful about arranging for it to be couriered back to the UK.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the front - the view is better (the minaret of Agia Sofia) and the street is ve...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Celal Sultan. Lovely, clean room. Good breakfast although the coffee was surprisingly poor. Walking distance to Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar and Spice Market. Special thanks to Aziz on the front desk for his help and kindness all week. Only complaint: wifi was spotty other than in the lobby area. David (Canada) and Jo (UK)

The hotel is in a really superb location. That is where the good news ends.
Our room was very tired, worn carpet chipped paintwork and a dirty shelf in the bathroom finished the review.
Staff were very pushy when we arrived to sell trips etc...far too insistent.
Needs some discipline with the cleaners, we left a dirty knife by the fruit in the bedroom...it never moved, yes we could have washed it but we just tried them out. Needless to say they didn't get a tip

We would stay there again. Wonderful location in Old City. Outstanding view of Hagia Sofia from rooftop deck. Rooms not fancy but clean, with good beds & bedding, windows that open, & good a/c. Excellent buffet breakfast. Staff very professional & helpful, e.g., re phoning for restaurant reservations, printing & scanning documents. Hotel secure. Bathroom small, but with good counter & shelf space, good plumbing fixtures, ample water volume & temperature. Highly recommend unless you are looking for something very fancy.

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel. Price for staying close to the points of interest is too high though. Location perfect, breakfast ok, room dark and silent. Staff sometimes a little grumpy. Rooftop restaurant simple, not really in line with the high roomprices. Lobby well designed and comfortable.

I really enjoyed my stay here for the past 5 nights. With it's great location close to many major attractions in istanbul it was ideal for us visiting the city for the first time. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with advice being given about possible available tours to make the most out of our holiday. Rooms were kept very clean and the historic character of the building being kept beautifully.
This might have been excellent but unfortunately the restraunt let it down. Veiws from our table the one night we ate at the hotel were great, however the food was a little disapointing and not as nice as the local restraunts which are only 5-10minutes walk away.
Overall though a beautiful hotel in a lovely area.
